Thank you.

Sometimes I sit here almost hysterical because I can't do the simplest thing on my real computer and I think other people are clever.

The online button uses a complicated code called Javascript to pop up in a little box. WebTV doesn't like this Javascript and that's why many websites won't work properly.

It can be done simply by
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/online
so I put the link on my page. I have the GuideML code now to make a proper link , but if you just type

http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/online

on your user page it should work for you. You have to get all the : and / and . in exactly the right places though.

I noticed your "I am FEDUP" journal entrys and I thought "She's stayed up until 3am to see if it works any better" . Was I right?

I really do know how you feel because I've been there myself.
Other people like aka have found it difficult but they knew what the internet on real computers should be like. You and I didn't and it adds to the confusion.

I am really not an expert but I'm glad I could help you.

In case you want to reply

Please don't worry about not being able to reply to people. Once you have more conversations than you can count on your fingers , even with a real computer it becomes difficult to follow them all and reply to people. Nobody will mind if you don't reply .

Hello JoFrog, This is in reply to a few messages you have sent me.

I've added you to the researcher list on my "Jofrogs Links" article, so it will appear on your page as well as mine. Hope it helps you.
Using a real computer, it really didn't take that long to collect the links for you. I can just get the mouse click on the address box at the top , go to where I want to put the link and click the mouse again , and it is there. I don't have to type http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide" >http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide and all the rest of it each time. And now I have the computer this sort of thing is a hobby of mine.

I have worked with computers, but it didn't really help me with modern internet computers. Like being able to ride a bicycle wouldn't help you to drive a car , that sort of thing. So I just bought a few books and magazines and learned stuff that way , plus copying what other people did online. Computers seem to have a life of their own and just break for no reason so it is difficult sometimes. Once you realise that if things don't work it probably isn't your fault , it gets easier.

Some things I have discovered like the simple skin aren't part of the official h2g2 , so they could switch it off and it may stop working at any time. And aka said it wouldn't work for him. But if it works for you for now, thats good.

The links don't work in subject lines that's why the whoisonline link doesn't work for you in your journal. You will have to put in a journal entry itself or on your page introduction. And there are 2 \\ after http:

Good luck , and DON'T GIVE UP. Things will get better I am sure of it. As more people get webTV either websites will have to make their sites more easily readable , or webTV itself will have to get better.

If you need any more help you know how to post a message now don't you? I'm not on line every day though , but when I'm here I will check on you.

I think you get an email telling you why your post has been moderated. I'm not sure, I've never had a post moderated myself.

I really don't know why some threads won't load if they are less than 20 posts should be no reason why not, but computers do have a life of their own sometimes.
