Can I answer the question, Peta?
You're almost correct, broe!
"GratulErer med dagen" is correct Danish, meaning "(I'm) congratulating (you) *with* the day".
A verbatim translation would be "Glad fødselsdag", but what we usually say, is "Tillykke med fødselsdagen!". (Or "Til lykke" = "for happiness/fortune/luck etc.")
"Tillykke" is less formal than "gratulerer".
