hehehe

I did! Once I finish the thing I'm painting, I'll scan and send it to you, if I don't make a botch of it. That's the problem with working with physical materials... no undo button. But it's always fun to get the pigments under my fingernails. smiley - biggrin

Personally I'm more interested in the sensual aspects of lukewarm chocolate custard ( insert suitable smiley that conveys Yes I am (semi) serious and no I don't have a massive cleaning bill (unfortunately)( how many embedded brackets is that?)))

To all those with a cleaning obsession from a long term single, relax and smell the sweaty socks!

On a more serious note, as a pacifist tibetan buddhist myself, light another candle for me and I'll try and meditate and send out some karma for all those who might soon be affected by another unneccessary war.

Thought for all- are any wars necessary?

smiley - laugh I don't think anyone here has an obsession with cleaning... do you GB? I sure don't, though if I had servants things might be a little bit neater in my chunk of the universe. Had a visit from my muse the other day and ended up streaked with purple and yellow and fuchsia. *borrows sweaty sock to wipe the colors from her hands before digging into that custard* See smiley - biggrin I've even got manners!

On the necessity of wars in general.... I'm not sure. That's one of the things I've been thinking a lot about lately. I've come to the conclusion that this one probably isn't, and will do far more harm than good. I do think that it's about time for the governments of the world to put some serious effort into eradicating terrorism, and I doubt that is going to be possible without some form of violence. *sigh* Wouldn't it be nice if everyone could just play nicely together? I guess that's not human nature, though.

Yes, that would be nice.
Imagine a world with no racism, no sexism, everyone is everyone elses brother/sister.

A cleaning obsession?
Nope, except when I get ~considers how to phrase this~ horny with no outlet, I *do* set to work scrubbing the house.
Frighten thesmiley - spiderI dosmiley - winkeye

The visitors to my house last week {no lovers, unfortunately} all remarked that they thought my kitchen looked bigger...in fact I had stripped it down, scrubbed it & thrown away all the *stuff* that accumulates...it *does* look a lot nicer.
I'd rather have a healthy sex-life though smiley - sadface

Uh oh.... I thought it WAS healthy. Sorry to hear that, honey. smiley - sadface
I'll zip on over to your page and see if I can catch an update. Otherwise, I'll catch you on ICQ. That reminds me, I'll email a piece of the thing I was painting to you. It's too big to all fit in the scanner, but you'll get the idea. That's just a study for a big one of a bunch of people I want to make, and the scanned one doesn't have the vibrance of the real one, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

smiley - run to your journal...

Feeling? Am I reduced to that?
Seriously tho folks( produces fake American smile that is far wider than should be humanly possible- hey has anyone counted an American's teeth to see if they have more than us?)I think Human Nature is largely what the Media and politians want it to be at any particular time.
In other words we're all different, but can be sold lines and coaxed into knee-jerk reactions, until we recognise some of the ways we're being manipulated. I don't believe that in most cases we need protecting from ourselves. I don't believe any religion is intrinsically evil( except of course the one with the coming of the Great White Handkerchief), it's the interpretations the ones in authority put on them.
Nor do I believe war is a necessary part of the human make up, or that eating meat helped us evolve and increased our brain size.

The smiley - earth is divided into two camps.

Those who act like doormats and those who wipe their sh*tty boots on them.

That sounds a little cynical, coming from you GB. Are you ok? smiley - hug

On human nature I'm not so sure I agree with you, beanfoto. I think one of the most interesting and surprising things I got from my education (given that I don't use it for anything that has to do with earning my living) is that people don't really seem to have changed that much over the centuries. I also think that while religions are not inherently evil, people often seem to use them to absolve themselves of responsibility for their lives. I think that's the way many people chose to protect themselves from themselves. It's a lot more difficult to justify doing something that goes against your ethics if you chose a value system because you think it's right than when you accept exterior rules based on faith in a higher power, especially when they have a built-in loophole that says humans are inherently evil but will be forgiven for their sins if they believe.

smiley - biggrin I'm American... wanna count my teeth? smiley - winkeye

Hey you have got more teeth than me( takes out teeth to prove it)!
I'm not sure that for most people religion is something that absolves them from responsibility- often its just something that they put down on their census forms and tell the nurse in hospital when they're filling in their medical records( if not there wouldn't be so many empty C.of E. churches). In other words it is something they never give a thought to. That's not religion. that's a label. Nor is the reciting of formulae like Jesus saves or Allah Akhbar.
Tho' going to a mosque 5 times a day is part of the way there.
A true religious belief needs thinking about on a regular basis, and some agonising.

The majority of Western society is then probably irreligious, unless you count the acquisition of goods a religion.I've found much more faith in Africa, even among animists

That's what irks me about some 'religious' people... they talk about it but don't apply the concepts, except when it's easy.

Tell me about your time in Africa. What took you there, and what did you find?

My degree course took me there. I stayed six months, got dysentry and lost 2 stone (28lbs if you're of the acrosss the Atlantic persuasion), Had up to 78 mosquito bites a night but no malaria ( one of my mates got amoebic dysentry and nearly died and was in hospital in the next bed to an Ethiopian with malaria who literally was grey with it).Suffered masses of culture shock, suffered racial discrimination when a lot of big city Afro Americans came over to reclaim their culture( it was the time of "Roots).

Apart from that, I enjoyed it greatly, It confirmed to me how little you need to get by, how the way we live in the west is to a large extent based on the exploitation of the Third world, and how the British colonial system was not totally bad( I once was crosing the border in Togo- ex French West Africa- and watched a line of Lepers crossing the border to Ghana to get free medecine from the Ghanian National Health).
It changed my life, I still miss Africa,(but not 100% humidity)
and, having had problems at work and now being unemployed, I'm looking to start travelling again

It's amazing how little we actually need when it comes to basics, and how much the things we have and want tend to gain importance. About a decade ago I lost pretty much everything I had in a hurricane, and material things really lost a big part of their value to me. They can all go away so suddenly. I started bouncing around, looking for the right place. I finally decided that south Florida, with all its problems, was the right place for me. Now I'm at a point where I kinda treasure the things I have and I don't want to lose them and rebuild yet again. That's draining. But I have moments when I wish I didn't have the ties to these things, that I could just pick up and go on another adventure. Right now it's time for me to find another career, something with more potential than what I'm currently doing. It's been easy and it pays the bills, but there's no stability in it. smiley - laugh I guess I'm at a stage where stability is starting to matter a lot more than it once did.

Where are you thinking of going next? And what do you hope to do once you get there?

*arrives with mop*

beanfoto

Going next?
Anyway thats warm, exotic and will not have too many hassles
Doing there?
Admiring the scenery, taking lots of pix, soaking up the culture and teaching English( not American).
I'm at a stage where stability is the last thing I need and I'm looking to remake myself after an emotional/mental hurricane.
