was feeling very depressed as i just got an assignment for sociology to interveiw someone and to ask them very personal(read NOSEY) questions about their value system, how things are different when they were growing up,etc. i hate asking nosey questions, it seems to invite them to ask nosey questions of me. i would rather adopt the Callahan's Bar Philosophy: at the bar,(fictional place) anyone will listen to you and try to help you if you want to talk, but if they ask a nosey question(nosey is defined by the person the question is directed at) and the pianist will whack you on the head with his blackjack. nosey questions nt welcome there. but now am feeling much better. H2G2 seems to do that for me.

radio talkers

have you ever been in a car with someone or two someones, and you favorite song comes on, the one you have not heard in years, the one you cannot find any sort of recording of, though you have searched far and wide, the one you cannot request to hear bcause you don't know the name of it, and they start talking about nothing in particular, about how *nice* the weather is, or some other drivel? that has happened to me many times and every time i want to just yell SHUT UP! you know you will probably have no chance to hear it again in the next 20 years, and they have to comment on how they see a cow in the field you are passing. and all the while you are straining to hear, and when they finally shut up either the song is over or they change the station, saying,"why don't we listen to something else for a while?" and even if you do protest, they won't change it back or they can't find the station again. really makes you want to never travel with them ever again, doesn't it?

Flat Earth
Posted Sep 8, 2000
If the world really was flat, then what would happen if you went off the edge? Would you really just fall off the side like so many people thought? I think you would turn 90 degrees and be balanced on the edge then when you stepped off be upside down. O the closer you get to the edge, the more you tilt so as to be in line with the center of the earth. Or maybe gravity would be less strong the closer you got to the edge, making for all sorts of weird effects, like if the ocean was near the edge it would turn all foggy, or if there was land there would be a big dust cloud. Also you would be progressively lighter as you got closer until finally you were floating above the ground(which would probably be a lot less solid with nothing holding it together)with no way to get down or back.
