have you ever been in a car with someone or two someones, and you favorite song comes on, the one you have not heard in years, the one you cannot find any sort of recording of, though you have searched far and wide, the one you cannot request to hear bcause you don't know the name of it, and they start talking about nothing in particular, about how *nice* the weather is, or some other drivel? that has happened to me many times and every time i want to just yell SHUT UP! you know you will probably have no chance to hear it again in the next 20 years, and they have to comment on how they see a cow in the field you are passing. and all the while you are straining to hear, and when they finally shut up either the song is over or they change the station, saying,"why don't we listen to something else for a while?" and even if you do protest, they won't change it back or they can't find the station again. really makes you want to never travel with them ever again, doesn't it?

Or, when you're at work and THE song that sums up your entire lovelife or worldview comes on the radio nearby. Always when it plays you stop what you're doing and stare off into space for a few minutes, lost in various mental tableaux.
At the precise moment when those oh-so-recognizable opening chords begin the phone on your desk rings...

I have actually told people: "Shut up, please?"

solution:grab the phone, rip it out of the wall socket, and if anyone asks, say you tripped over it

That's a good idea! I usually just erupt in a long stream of obsenities until I pick up the phone or it stops ringing.
