You mean you're not ~ its not good to get a girl all excited like that and let her down.
PUBLIC APOLOGY
ALPHA-MALE Posted Apr 27, 2005
I hang my head, Oh she who walks through walls
(LOVED that book- but 'Job' was a close follower)
It was a Princess Of Mars that got my attention a long time ago, and Heinlein who carried on the tradition. love his stuff (Number of the Beast was a bit strained, though) My favourite is probably Glory Road
Apology accepted

Number of the beast wasn't the best but i was still a kid when i read it and loved the idea of being able to go to all those books i'd read.
I was too young to pick holes in the science then.
First one i read was I will fear no evil.
Job's actually one of my faves along with time enough for love

Yes it works really well.
Where you located ~ i'm UK and have had a hard time geting copies of all his stuff over the years.
Usually stuffed suitcases full of books when on holiday in the US
most of his work seems to be out of print here.

Near swindon ~ i think i got most of them now ~ second hand shops aren't bad and i can always resort to amazon.
Funny thing was back when i was in high school they had a bunch in the school library ~thats where i first found them.
Don't supppose they knew what they had.

Strangers in Strange Lands
pixel Posted Apr 27, 2005

buy the duty free after you've got rid of the suitcase ~ its when they want to weigh my handbag or handluggage i'm in trouble.

Yes, but the Drenai tales are an easy read- a much different style from his other stuff. Give it a go, start with Waylander or Legend.

pixel Posted Apr 28, 2005
I'll read anything ~ i didn't think his stuff was difficult exactly ~ it just didn't engage me.
But my stepfather has everything gemmels ever written so i'll borrow some next time i pop up for a visit.

Problem with the Drenai stuff, some think it a virtue, is the timeline. For instance, in Legend, the hero is killed at the end. In the half dozen sequels, we start from an earlier time, and work forwards. Happens a lot. Waylander is set several hundred years before legend, Winter warriors about a hundred after. It makes sense once you have it all under your belt...... or not !
