Where has the time gone?
Posted Jul 11, 2002
Sorry to be harping on about this, but in a couple of day's I will have been a non-smoker for 2 months...
This is a good thing (oh, OK, I've slipped once or twice..but I've not bought a pack for myself...just nicked other peoples. No comfort to them, but for me!)
Found a great blues bar in Nodnol, on the street that Liberty's (the shop)crosses in it's tudourness. We went on Tuesday night and the place was hooching..but in a good way. The atmosphere was amazing. I don't think I've enjoyed anything since I was still taking the money at the Happening Club door when I was still underage....
Have been on holiday with seven Uni freinds. On a canal narrow-boat on the Kennet and Avon in Wiltshire. Oh the PUBS!!!! The plates were usually as big a steering wheels, and always totally full...
And the Beer....
The first Wiltshire pub we actually went to was a wonderful little blues bar in Bedwyn...I shall be attempting to get out there one weekend, because I didn't manage to make it back for the live gig....something which they apparently have every Saturday...
The Cross Keyes, for this it was, is a small pub that looks nothing so much like a railway tavern frequented only by locals. OK, it's frequented by locals...the first time we went in most obvious was the family playing scrabble in the corner. But on the stereo was Blues...Something that will always make me fall in love with a place..
Then I saw the signs for the live band playing on Saturday and wondered how they were gong to manage both a band and an audience in an L-shaped room as small as that...It was only after talking to them behind the bar that I found out they have a barn attached to the back wall of the pub that has been fitted out for concerts. this barn is my kind of place, with not only it's own bar...so you miss none of the music, but also Vettriano piccies on the wall etc....
I definately going to go again!
Can I live in Wiltshire please? It is luvverly (OH OK, there probably ain't many jobs in Genetics in Wiltshire, and non which would allow me to afford one of the beautiful chocolate-box thatched cottages that were in abundance in their matching chocolate-box villages. But it is nice to dream..no?
The canal boating was great fun too..or at least it was when not persisting down on us from a great hight. The girls decided just to let the boys get on with the steeering...but of course this mean that we ended up doing most of the locks by ourselvs...but it helped us work off the huge meals, and as such was no bad thing!.
Must remember at some point to get the photos developed, but currently my local Boots is closed for refurbishment, so not yet anyhow...
I suppose I had better go do some work now..

One Month tomorrow

Since I had a ciggie. I not feeling too bad about this!
Anyway, have been running round like the blue proverbial, what with doing all kinds of English-type stuf over the Jubilee. Did Hampton Court on what can only be described as the lovliest day going, and the next day, Sunday, went and had a picnic in Windsor Great Park. Another sunny day, but this time I got sunburn and possibly jut a little bit of sun-stroke...oh well Then we were all cultural and watched the classical concert in aid of the Queens Jubilees......any one who stays in a job that long without let or stay gets all my respect....
Monday we went to the Surrey County Show. We managed to miss all the aminals (quite a feat at an agricultural show, you must admit), but enjoyed just wandering round looking at the hideously expensive stalls and such.
We went home and all managed to pass out while "watching" the Secret of Nimh. Woke up in tine to seriously enjoy the Rock concert....though we were wondring if Freddy ould have had the gumption to wear his ermine and crown....I still think he would have.
Finally passed out, and cannot really remember much of the night, except that it was GOOD...
This past weekend was in Nodnol doing the Fleadh...GOT PETER GREEN'S autograph...I think that should sum up my day nicely..! Can name several people what are green with envy and such...
Am goin up to Durham next weekend to see my sister and MA and PA for the weekend....And shall be working in between...
Wouldn life be great if it was just weekends? (if only we had the money, ay folks)

Haven't been home in a month or so and an probably also home-sick.. Though I just got a package from my mum with a couple of shirts (didn't fit her apparently) and a lot of Nice to know your parents know you!
