h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Yeah... should come in many flavors.

It is around this time of the year that I give thanks to Almighty Bob and praise His mercy and wisdom for once again sparing me the horror (no pun intended) and ghastliness that is Fantastic Fest

They mentioned it on the local NPR affiliate today. I remember hearing Tim League's name, but I wasn't paying attention so that's all I caught.

He's been all over KUT like a rash today

I can imagine.

I still want an Alamo Draft House on my side of town. We have a knock off nearby, Star Cinema, but they only show mainstream, blockbuster films. Come to think of it, when I've checked the listings, the two ADHs on the far side of Houston also seem to stick to widely released films. I guess what I really want is an Austin Alamo Draft House out here in the 'burbs.

It's like my desire for a local music venue that features cool, original music rather rather than classic rock and Texas blues covers.

We have a mean, nasty, working-class-people-hating government in power, property prices are soaring, Class War is on the march again, and now the Royal Mint is selling 1kg bars of gold for around 25 grand. If the music wasn't so awful, and if my waistline was a bit smaller, and if so many parts of me didn't ache all the time I'd swear we'd regressed to the 1980s.

So where are the protests? The strikes? Where's Red Wedge? Where's the modern day Billy Bragg and Paul Weller?

Well, this is a first. I'm having breakfast tacos... for breakfast

It always makes me smile that the governor of Texas (in recent years a swivel-eyed, hanging's-too-good-for-em, right-winger) has to work in the most left wing part of Texas http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-34507760

We're fighting a losing battle though. This town is turning into... has turned into yuppie/hipsterville.

It used to be 'I woke up too early this morning - I'll have an early night tonight'. Now it's 'I woke up too early this morning - I'm going to fall asleep on the sofa at 8pm and wake up at midnight, aren't I'.

For the last few days I've been worried about some red blotches on my shins.

This morning I realised that they're where my new work wellies are rubbing against my shins

I did the same with biker boots once.

If the place I buy it from has the particular flavour I like (mint choc chip ), I might buy some Blue Bell ice cream tomorrow. For those of you who don't know why this is news, here's some reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Bell_Creameries#2015_recalls

With the revelations of some of their former employees, they have lost some small percentage of their customers forever.

No doubt. Normally I make my own ice cream, but like Volkswagen, I have an irrational brand loyalty to Blue Bell And I don't have a good recipe for mint choc chip. Also, it's long been my opinion that safest time to travel by public transport/buy a food product is directly after a disaster/contamination scare.

I believe the clocks go back this weekend.
