Still no hot water Nor, I might add, any word from the apartment managers about what's happened to it or when it might be fixed

Finally, an email. Exactly 48 hours after I first noticed that the water wasn't as hot as it ought to be, we get the vaguest of suggestions as to when we might get hot water again - "possibly not until Monday", a cursory (and, these days, mandatory, it seems) 'sorry for the inconvenience', and the whole thing rounded off with (quote) "Enjoy your weekend!"

It's back.

It's still going on by the way: "There will be no hot water on Thursday August 30, 2018. The hot water and possibly the cold water will be off throughout the day from 9am-5pm."

This is the second time this month that the water's been off for a whole working day, not to mention the 1-2 hour shutoffs that we've had during the course of the year. Thankfully, both of the eight-hour shutoffs have happened on a day when I'm at work. If it happened on a Wednesday I'd be ed. That's my main cooking day in readiness for the work week.

"There will be no water on Tuesday September 4, 2018. The hot water and possibly the cold water will be off throughout the day from 9am-5pm. We will be fixing a mainline water leak. The plumber wasn't able to make his previous appointment, so he rescheduled his work for Tuesday."

"There will be no water on Wednesday September 12, 2018. The hot water will be off throughout the day from 9am-5pm."

I was talking to my cousin's wife this week and she'd had water cut off with no warning for 2 days. This was in Berkshire.

Speaking of having the water cut off, it's hurricane season again and I still don't understand why people rush to the stores before storms and buy up all the bottled water they can cram into their vehicles. Well, I know why they do it. They do so because they see everyone else doing it on TV. But I'd like to think sooner or later someone on TV will have the sense to explain to these people that you don't need bottled water before the storm. The tap water is still running before the storm. Fill water jugs before the storm! Fill coolers. Definitely fill your tub and seal it well so you'll have water to flush the toilet. But there is absolutely no reason to buy bottled water before the storm,... or ever for that matter.

Well, it's been more than a year, but... no hot water, and a cold shower this morning, and it's a bloody cold morning too.

It isn't over yet.

Last week I got an email from the office stating that the water for the entire apartment complex would be off on Tuesday this week (yesterday) from 9am until 5pm for "essential repairs". Here we go again, but that's not too bad - I do most of my cooking for the coming work week on Wednesday.

Yep. Yesterday there was an email saying that the plumbers had had to cancel and the water would be off today, Wednesday, 9am - 5pm. Bum. So I rushed around like a mad thing trying to get as much of the cooking I had planned for today done. And this morning I filled several large pots with water to get me through the day's needs. Which I no longer need, because...

Now it's scheduled for Tuesday *next* week

They say it's to repair a water line leak which is affecting several apartments. I hope my one is included in that because I have next to no water pressure in my kitchen sink. If I want to make a cuppa I have to start filling the kettle five minutes ahead of time because of the pathetic dribble that comes out of my tap. Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but even filling a glass of water before I go to bed takes an age.

I'm taking bets now on whether it'll be rescheduled a third time

Since I haven't heard anything to the contrary, today is presumably water shutoff day. In 28 minutes from now. I bet the plumbers are wishing now that they'd come last week, when temperatures were in the 80s. Not too pleasant to work in, especially with the humidity that was around at the time, but far better than the mid to upper 40s, barely grazing 50F/10C, forecast for today, with a 40% chance of rain.

Exactly one hour later, and the water's still on.

That'll teach you to make plans around their officially announced schedule.

The water did not go off yesterday. I am awaiting an explanation.

I had to speak to the office this morning on an unrelated matter and brought up the water as I wanted to do some cooking today, and laundry. An explanatory email is being sent out today, but as far as she could tell me they found an unexpected cable while digging yesterday so had to stop until they could find out what it is
