Oh, and 96F/35.6C today. That's 15F hotter than average for this time of the year.

The drought seems to be the reason for a shelter in place in Texas City for air quality concerns. Apparently since there's been no rain at all for well over a month now, the sea air is leaving salt deposits on some electrical equipment. The deposits have grown large enough to possibly have caused power outages at three local industrial plants night before last. When the plants lose power they have to burn off some of the chemicals to prevent over pressurization. With so many flares burning and producing thick black smoke they called for the shelter in place for the last day or so.

The "cold" front moving through today isn't expected to bring any significant rain to the Galveston County area (11% chance), but temperatures tomorrow morning are expected to be 25°F cooler when I leave for work. I guess I'll be pulling my leather chaps back out of the closet. smiley - biker

It sure feels a whole let better this morning, and the forecast says even cooler this time tomorrow, to the tune of 20F (73 right now, 52 24 hours from now). And there's a prognosis of a maximum temperature below 80 next Monday, and several overnight lows in the 50s in the coming week smiley - bigeyes

It's 30 years since the Austin Memorial Day flood. You don't think...

Looks like we made it to around 87 today, and it sure feels a lot more pleasant. Less humidity too.

The forecast for Monday is 74 smiley - brave

For about the last 90 minutes I've been streaming a live webcast of weather coverage from a TV station in Alabama, and I'm real glad I'm not there right now. They're saying first estimate of fatalities is 25 since this afternoon. I've seen doppler radar hook echoes like I've never seen before. Birmingham and Tuscaloosa have been hit today and tornadoes are still forming. The weather service in Birmingham have evacuated because there's another one headed their way.

Well, it wasn't in the 50's as predicted but it was quite cooler and dryer this morning. smiley - biker

According to NOAA it was 57 in Houston at 6.53am and 55 in Austin.

The forecast high today is 83. I might leave my window open and a/c off when I go to work smiley - bigeyes

128 dead in Alabama now. That's sure to rise.

That 57° reading seems a bit low. That may have been for Intercontinental Airport. It was 63° near downtown and at JSC at 6:30.

Today was just gorgeous smiley - bigeyes

A really nice mild morning in the upper 50s, then a maximum temperature of 83F/28.6C - maybe four or five degrees F on the high side but still very nice, a warm zephyr of a breeze blowing, not a cloud in the sky all day, low humidity, and now it's a perfect sitting-out-on-the-balcony-with-a-beer temperature.

It doesn't get much better than this smiley - brave

Man, I should be keeping a record of the forecast temperatures for next Monday and Tuesday - they're going up and down faster than a bride's nightie smiley - online2long

Currently 64 on Monday, 74 on Tuesday. A few hours ago it was (to my recollection) 65 and 69. This morning it was... something else. Yesterday it was something else entirely.

Further changes will be noted here.

Now at 63 Monday, 73 Tuesday. Pretty certain that a few days ago it was in the low 80s for Tuesday cos that's my Saturday and I was wondering what kind of a day it's going to be.

I'm in a dilemma.

On the one hand, tomorrow, which is my Saturday, looks like a fantastic day to be outside - sunny and 74F. But on the other hand I'd really like to take advantage of the cooler temperatures to have a baking day. Today would have been ideal for that - cloudy, windy and in the low 60s, but it's Friday for me and I have to go to work.

The predicted and very badly needed rain has so far avoided Austin altogether, although there's plenty of it on the radar right now to our north and west. Perhaps it'll head this way before fizzling out. If I leave my umbrella at home today maybe that'll encourage it smiley - evilgrin

I'm doing my part again to bring the rain into my area. I fully planned on taking the car in due to the chance of rain. Also, I need to do a bit of shopping. However, guess who left a dome light on in the car last week. So, I'll probably get a good soaking on the way home if not at lunch as well. smiley - biker

And we're back to stupid hot - 98/36.7 this afternoon, and it felt like it. If scorchio is officially 100F, I guess that's anti-penultimate scorchio. And 15° above normal.
