Can't you just lay it at the foot of the bed or off to the side? I'm just the opposite - I can't get to sleep without a blanket over me, but then I wake up around 2 am and kick it off.

We have to keep the house a little warmer than I'd like. The thermostat is set at 72 because SuperChunk's room gets too cold otherwise (with it set at 72 it stays between 68 & 70 in there), but since the master bedroom is right next to the furnace, even with the vents closed it stays around 75 in there. I hate my house.

Forecast around 45 today, I think - I was still half asleep when I checked the weather before I left for work. Low of 33 tonight, then 50s tomorrow and high 20s tomorrow night. smiley - brr

Your shower-ometer would definitely register 'winter' in the midwest, and it's still nice here.

The shower-ometer registered another borderline winter reading this morning - 48/8.9 when I woke up and still only 51/10.5 at almost 10pm. That's quite a shock to the system when until just a week or two back we were sitting in the upper 70s at this time of the day. We won't even get *into* the 70s today if the forecast is correct but I'm sure it'll feel like it if you stand in the sun, and it looks like there's not a cloud in the sky at the mo.

Yeah, I suppose I could put the duvet to one side and then roll it on if it gets cold, but either way I'd still end up waking up, and when I wake up at night I often find it difficult to get back to sleep, sometimes taking a couple of hours to drift off again, by which time it's close to morning anyway smiley - sadface

Y'know, sometimes I do miss those crisp, clear, cloudless cold winter mornings that you get in the east of Britain when there's high pressure over the country dragging cold Russian air in from the Continent and putting frost on the grass and the trees smiley - bigeyes

Of course, that should have been 10am, not 10pm smiley - blush

There's another aspect to the shower-ometer. Because the sun beats down on the asphalt, and because the asphalt can get too hot to walk on in bare feet for much of the year, and because the water pipes run under the asphalt, it's difficult to get cold water out of the cold taps and the hot water from the communal boiler doesn't lose much heat on its journey all the way down here, so the mixer tap on the shower is set further towards cold during the summer. In winter it gets turned a lot more to the warm setting.

Hmmm... how odd. Are there two Goshos on this thread? On the previous page of posts I see a '"Who's on second?" "No, Who's on first. Gosho's on second"' type Gosho. But on this page I see a 'One out, top of the fifth, the Goshos are loaded' type Gosho.

Is it a fluke of cached pages? Or has h2g2 gone to keeping the names used at time of posting? Or is it something else entirely? And with halloween acronyms abounding this could get even more (or maybe much less) confusing than normal.

Anagrams I mean, not acronyms (I work for NASA it's nothing but acronyms here)... speaking of which, I guess it's time I put on one as well.

Ah... now there's just the one Gosho. Must have been the cache.

Nevermind. smiley - blush

Since I'm here I suppose I ought to say something meteorological, eh smiley - tongueout

The duvet went on the bed last night and stayed there for the duration - last night's minimum at Camp Mabry was 44/6.7. It's going to be a perfect day today - cloudless sky and about 72/22.2 - and so far, at 10.40am we're sitting at 60/15.6. Apart from some rain in the middle of the week it looks the next seven days are going to be quite pleasant.

I was tempted to turn up the waterbed heater last night. (Of course I still had my A/C on but it was just cycling the air.)

You have a waterbed? smiley - bigeyes

Speaking of water, I think I'm going to carry my umbrella to work today - there's a chance of rain this afternoon and evening. There's a slightly stronger chance tomorrow. We should climb into the mid 70s (low to mid 20s C) today but it's already overcast so we won't be seeing too much of the sun. It's 60/15.6 at 9am.

Yes... it is a very old, full motion cheap waterbed I've had since I was 16. I've been thinking about getting a conventional bed but a good one costs a few thousand dollars.

But now that I think about the idea that I've had this bed for nearly a quarter century maybe it's time for a change.

Weatherwise I just remembered that I forgot to turn the bedroom A/C back on this morning. It was in the mid 50's F here last night again but it's supposed to warm up this afternoon which could mean that when I get home late tonight it could be quite stuffy in there. We're supposed to get showers tomorrow and a wonderful weekend. I'm hoping to go to the Texas Renaissance Festival this weekend (the best weekends for going are the one nearest Halloween and the last weekend before thanksgiving). I always like it when there's some cool weather as I wear a kilt and those were NOT designed for typical Texas weather.

We have the central heating set to come on twice a day now, as of this weekend. Turned the thermostat down a little though.

Raining non-stop this morning. Coming down like stair-rods, as they used to say where I come from smiley - ok

Raining here too, but not so heavy that my brolly won't be able to deal with it when I go to the supermarket in a couple of minutes. There's been barely any variation in the temperature overnight - yesterday's maximum was 73, and it didn't drop any lower than 69 last night, so no duvet on the bed. We should be getting more rain as the day progresses, especially this afternoon around the time of the rush hour. Upper 70s today, lower to mid 80s tomorrow.

smiley - laugh Yep, I'm guessing not even you could throw that far!

Went to the one shop with a car park and left everything else (the bits which would have involved walking (sorry, I know you live in the USA now, you may need an explanation about that smiley - winkeyesmiley - run) until tomorrow.

(Yes, I know, you walk to the bus stop a lot. I know. Cheap shot. Had to take it)

Ah you forget the time difference Jules smiley - tongueout I clocked on at 2pm and clocked out at about 6.15.

The rain managed to hold off until I got to work, and about an hour later we got a thorough soaking. Almost an hour of heavy, tropical rain. We've had just over an inch of rain since this morning, about half of which fell between 3pm and 4pm.
