My trip schedule is shaping up. We're leaving here and driving to SA on Sept. 20th. Then we are driving up to Arlington to the ballpark on the 24th. to watch the last home game of the season. It is an afternoon game, so there won't be a lot of time to stop in Austin that day. Nothing is scheduled yet for the 25th or the day of the 26th. I have a personal event to attend in Dallas the evening of the 26th through the morning of the 28th. Then we're heading west.
Soooooooooooooo, is there any time in there when we can get together? Gw7en lives in Austin, also. She has suggested a quiz night at a pub in Austin. Mother Egans, I think. Or she said she could meet us in SA on the 23rd. I know you don't have a car, so I hate to ask you to come to SA.
It would be cool if CZ could drive over from Houston. I may drop him a line and see what he's doing that week.

I know. And I apologize. But that's how it is working out.
I do have another idea for this winter. We'll be driving down to Dallas for this:

That sounds like an appropriate venue for a meet.

I know. From the ridiculous to the sublime.
I wanted to see this exhibition when it toured the US the first time and just couldn't manage it. So this time I'm making it a priority.

Good idea. I caught a good exhibit on Egypt a couple of years back at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and another on Tibet (picked up some Hot Sauce of the Dead that came with a miniature Book of the Dead in the souvenir shop ).

Since you live in a major city, you have access to cultural opportunities on a regular basis. I'm a poor hillbilly. I have to drive hundreds of miles to see much of anything that is worth the effort.
Hot Sauce of the Dead. What a hoot!

Oh, it was excellent. Really good on chicken strips. And the book of the dead was excellent as well. It's very profound and reads a bit like the Tao Te Ching.

I have a copy of the Book of the Dead but have never read it. I should get around to that.

Yea, it's one of those that people buy to put on their bookshelves.

I intended to read it when I bought it. Really! It's not like any of the folks who visit me would be impressed by seeing a copy of it in my bookcase.

That week could be difficult We'll be coming to the end of Fantastic Fest and it'll be mayhem at work. Fridays are pretty much out for me even on normal weeks because of deliveries and suchlike.
Oh bother.

Well fiddlesticks.
I was rather joking about having a meet in Dallas and everyone going to see the King Tut exhibit together, but the more I think about it, the better I like it. What do you think? We could pick a date and just do it. The exhibit runs from early October until the middle of May. I'm going to England in late April/early May, so that time frame is out. For me setting the event sometime in Janusry - March would work best. Is there a slow time in there for you at the Drafthouse?
I am going to Dallas for the exhibit whether we do this or not.

Mid-September to mid-November are relatively quiet, especially October, but we have this thing called Fantastic Fest, usually the third week in September. It's like our own mini South by Southwest and we're hellabusy. For instance, if you take your holiday during either SXSW or Fantastic Fest you lose your eligibility for profitshare - that's how important it is to the Drafthouse and the people who have to write the schedules. However, I do plan to take some time off in October. Not sure of the dates yet. And October can be a very pleasant time to be in central Texas - it's like British summer weather (except it gets dark a lot earlier )

I am locked into the schedule I have. I have reservations made, non-refundable tickets purchased, etc. I'll be taking nearly 3 weeks off work so there is no way I can come back in mid-October. Looks like we aren't going to be able to work it out.
