How nice to be reminded of John Peel, and what an atmospheric picture, truly suggestive of the duality of his being. The English traditionalist,footie-loving, laid back, dignified, philsophical, sort of hard-nosed liberal side, and the honest to God, darn tootin rebellious, experimental (mental, but experienced!?), up yours, up everybody's, I WILL play the Cocaine Guns new single ,and sue me if you don't likeit, it's a free country as long as you do what you're told side. Phew!

Only Ane Nightingale comes anywhere close these days. I reccommend a listen at www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/annienightingale, or via djannienightingale on myspace. Bangin tunes, and well in advance of anything else I've come across

Dirty Funker's remix of "Sandman" by ACDC really ficked my switches!

Ah, Peelie. I miss hearing his voice and finding the kind of new music he'd play. It's hard to lose something you've grown up with and don't think could ever not be around, but people die and one has to accept it. He went out at the top of his game, no doubt about it. I wish it could have been a few years later though. He truly was a one-off.

It's true what you say about growing up with john Peel. My last physical fight with my old man was due to me (accidentally) breaking a window to get to my radio to tune in! The turning on and dropping out occurred soon after!

Nice to discover someone with a taste for good manners. Did you know that the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band were on tour in the states, and got pulled over by the highway patrol, who asked them if they had any drugs or weapons with them. Getting a reply in the negative, the patrolman asked what they were going to use to protect themselves. Viv Stanshall replied "Good Manners", as only he could, and they were allowed to continue on their merry way. Another "Dearly departed" I'm afraid. Valium & strong lager. He also propoes a range of clothing for Special Brew fans, with colours such as "Gutter"
