Amy the Ant has given me a couple of lovely logos for the Museum and Library and Natural History Museum. I've had to change my home page to GuideML to accommodate them (which is a great improvement). When you click on one of them, you're transported to the Library or Museum. I was just thinking, couldn't the vegetarian society have a logo too? Then we can all have it on our home pages and our fellow vegetarians can stumble across it in their travels. That way getting new members won't all depend on the "H2G2 Vegetarian Society" appearing in the "who's on line" window. Does anyone here know how to do it? If not, Amy's the most helpful Ant you could hope to meet. I bet she'd tell us how.

We are presently trying to find someone to make us some logos (other than the pathetic corn cob thing at the top of the page that I threw together). Pegasus and myself (especially myself) are not exactly experts on graphic design and we need a volunteer to make them for us. For more information, read the "Call for Graphics" section towards the bottom of the HVS home page. If you know anyone who might be interested (they need not be a member) please let us know. But yes, the thought has crossed our minds.

I'll ask Amy if she can think of anyone who might be interested in helping. The Library and Museum logos are nice subtle little things that look good on an alabaster background. I haven't tried them on goo, but they'd probably look nice on a blue background too.

Amy's been busy and this: http://mcbrideweb.future.easyspace.com/vegsoc.jpg
is the result. I like it very much and think it would fit in with the rest of the "furniture" on my page very nicely. What do you think? Let me know if you want to use it and I'll tell Amy.

I liked it, and hope it's the first thing I add to my page when it finally gets organised.

That looks pretty good! But why the sheep? Ok, so I guess sheep are mostly vegetarian but I'm a little confused as to why it's on there. The only other issue is the lowercase h2g2. We've already had some problems with that and decided to stick with the capitals when talking about the Society. But I'm starting to have second thoughts on that anyway. After all it works for the hHS (h2g2 Historical Society). I need to discuss it with Pegasus before we grant it official status, but feel free to use it anyway. Is this Amy a vegetarian? If so I hope she joins us! Thanks Amy!

Hiya Zarquon
I asked Amy if she knew anyone who could do a nice logo and she said she'd go away and think about it. A couple of days later she came back with a logo. She's one of those busy Ants who always seems to find a way to fit everything in.
I didn't ask her why it was a sheep. I guess because they're nice, gentle herbivores and that image was available. I'm very fond of sheep and have already put the logo on my page as a link. It's a good size (same size as the other logos on my page) and I like the colours. It looks knitted and textured and it's one of the nicest logos I've seen.
I don't know whether Amy's a vegetarian. This is her address:
http://www.h2g2.com/U135642 if you want to check it out. As far as I can see, her preferred diet is pizza and red wine.
The thing about the h2g2 as opposed to H2G2 is that the lower case version is preferred by the ummm, people who run the site. I expect that's why Amy did it that way.
Anyway, I'll cross my fingers and hope Pegasus and the other members like it. Peaceful Earling's happy with it aren't you Peaceful?

Ok King Wolf (love the name btw!) I talked this over with Pegasus and we'll let you in as an "hono(u)rary vegetarian" under one condition: You are forbidden to eat meat while logged into h2g2 And don't think you can cheat either! We have eyes EVERYWHERE. (It's just a freak deformity, we swear it's not diet-related.) If anyone objects to this admission, as it is a first, you can email the HVS with your comments. We guarantee your confidentiality. But I think this is a good opportunity to help promote our cause. Maybe we can even "convert" you KW!
As for the logo, this is really tough to say because I really appreciate you doing this, but this is why I said on the page to describe your plan first (I guess it's not noticible enough). I discussed it at length with Pegasus and we both feel the sheep and the lowercase letters aren't going to work. You can still use it but I'm afraid we can't grant it official status. I hope you and Amy don't take it personally. If she's interested in changing it have her email me. Sorry and thanks again.
One more thing: I discovered just this morning that tomorrow (Sunday, October 1st) is World Vegetarian Day. I wish I had realized this earlier. Oh well. Have a happy one!

No problem. I'll do another one.
Sizewise is it OK? Any preferred colour scheme, font, emblem etc?

Hi Zarquon and Wolf
I'll let Amy know. I'll keep the sheep logo myself though. I live in the country - they're everywhere and I do like them and miss them when they go off for the chop (excuse the pun).
I have no objection to having a Wolf in our midst. I have a couple of my own at home (the domesticated variety). They're very nearly vegetarian. But I bet it was the sheep that attracted you here, wasn't it Wolf?
I bet we could have got the whole pack joining up if you'd decided to have the sheep logo, Zarquon. Tut, lost opportunity.
Sal
PS Just gone to post this message and find Amy got here first. Well met, Amy!

Amy, thanks for the logo. Sal is right, I was happy with it, it looked so peaceful!
But, of course, I understand and accept the Society's position. And I'm glad you're helping us out.
Welcome King Wolf! Know the story about Saint Francis of Assisi and a wolf? It's a nice story. And we are friendly folks, so I'm sure we can establish a good dialogue here.
Happy Vegetarian Day!

HAPPY WORLD VEGETARIAN DAY everyone!
Thanks Amy. I think the size of the logo and text was perfect, but I think we had something a little more veggie-food orientated in mind. We also want to keep with the capitalisation, and I noticed the other logos on Sal's page used H2G2 rather than the lower case, and it looks right. (Did you make those too?)
Bearing in mind the large logo that Z put together, and also the 'corn' smiley which has been discussed with Peta, perhaps sticking with the corn-on-the-cob theme would be best? Maybe a cob making a V shape (for vegetarian!), if that was possible? Thanks for your help Amy - it's very much appreciated.
Welcome to the society wolf. I think you'll find us a very friendly bunch, with some shared interests, such as environmentalism. If you do decide to give vegetarianism a try (what better time to start than World Vegetarian Day), do let us know. I'm sure you'll find lots of support and useful tips from HVS members.
