That's Esperanto for "The green dog drinks wine!"

Yup, I'm learning Esperanto, my third language, from an email correspondence course (at [Broken link removed by Moderator]It's far easier than Japanese, my second language (in which the above sentence would be "Midori no inu wa wain o nomimasu.")

You're right about Japanese, it is rather confusing, I only got as far as "O-genki desu ka?" and "Watashi wa Tanaka san desu." Hindi, is much easier, since the antics of the green dog go like this: "Hara kutta sharab peeta hai!" or Marathi for that matter, where you have, "Hirva kutra sharab peetoy!"

Ooooh, do you realise what you've just done? You used the honorific 'san' after your own name! That's a big no-no!!

You're lucky you didn't say that in the company of a samurai in feudal Japan, where your head would bid a fond farewell to your shoulders shortly after this slip of the tongue. Modern Japan would probably be a bit more relaxed, though. At most, you could expect to be slapped around by a big dead fish smiley - fish.

Sorry, I meant to say "Kochira wa Tanaka san desu." Must've forgotten it when I posted this. Besides, I went that far in two hours, so what do you expect?

Glad to see there aren't any samurai around, I don't think it would be too much fun to be approached by a guy who bows and says, "Allow me the pleasure of annihilating you."

On the bright side, at least my name isn't Tanaka!
