Drinking to excess

It would seem that wondering the streets of Leeds finding the drinks we should all be drinking and where we should be drinking them is a little harder than you may first think ... particularly when you have a bar of your own to tend, its getting late and you're a bit worse for wear cos you've just spent all day designing a new drink for the Cuervo tequila competition (and drunk most of them your self)... Damn where did I put that note book!

...not a frozen strawberry daiquiri again!

Bartending is a wonderful profession, and I pride myself on being a part of it, and a damn fine one to boot. So I've taken it upon myself to wonder the streets of this fair city and search out the best bars and the best drinks, that best impart the style and elegance of my profession. One that is often over looked as such due to the huge numbers of amateurs behind the bars, and ultimately behind the desks that power them.

What better place to start with, thought I, than home. A perfect little bar on New Merrion Street, Leeds. That like Mary Poppins is practically perfect in every way.

Theres something about a frozen daiquiri on a hot day. Indeed any frozen cocktail always seems to hit the mark.

As a fellow bartender, I understand the look on the bartenders face as I order the fifth round of daiquiris. Lovely to drink, easy to make (low difficulty), easy to make (on the nerves- the first time), but when there are six of you, and this is your fifth round... well it tends to grind ones nerves.

This is however no ordinary bar, and by no means any ordinary bartender. This is Mojo and my mentor, The Doctor, at the blender.

As I finish my first day of research into drinks, bars and what makes them tick, I gaze reflectively at my daiquiri, the Doctor (whose face is filled with a demonic delight) and my companions,... and realise with an ample measure of horror that...

I'm in for one hell of a night!
