h2g2 Post Readers' Forum

Read the h2g2 Post.

Do you read the h2g2 Post? If not, then you should – it's really rather good. It's the voice of the h2g2 community: a fortnightly weekly magazine chock full of news and views, creative writing and poetry, cartoons and comedy, reviews and travelogues, challenges and competitions, and a wealth of other features, all written by h2g2 community members.

In the last year or so, the Post has seen a bit of a resurgence in popularity, helped in no small part by an active editorial team, as well as initiatives like the Aviators – a group of Researchers who produce audio-visual material. There have also been some stunning new features, and some of h2g2's best writers are submitting regular columns.

It's no wonder that we want to talk about it all from time to time. The trouble is, there hasn't really been an appropriate place to do that – until now.

What is the Post Readers' Forum?

Before we reveal the answer to this cryptic conundrum, let's say what a Post Readers' Forum isn't.

It isn't a plot by the h2g2 Post Team to control your hearts and minds – it will remain completely independent of their influence [Does this sound OK to you, Rich?]

It isn't the place to say "Lil/Tonsil/Gnomon, I really enjoyed your poem/cartoon/column." You should post this at the foot of the poem/cartoon/column entry itself.

It isn't the place to say "I'm really unhappy with the way you insulted my grandmother in your editorial." Best drop an e-mail to the Post Team, using the "Editorial Feedback" link on the front page of each h2g2 Post issue.

It isn't the place to ask "Is anyone planning a meet up in Slough/Zanzibar/Kiev?" You'll find all that out at the Community Events page. On the other hand if you want to see if anyone's interested in planning a meet then you might want a wider audience for that – try Askh2g2, maybe.

It isn't the place to say "Read my great cricket column in The Post this week!" Rabid self-promotion should be confined to journals (and that includes you, Rich).

It isn't the place to say "lettuce spry – teh holy hoover is nigh smiley - zen." Try Miscellaneous Chat, or alternatively Gnomon's personal space (no, don't! - just kidding!)

Which leaves...

It IS the place to chat about the h2g2 Post in general. It's a permanent forum to discuss ideas for new features, to ask for advice or assistance from other regular contributors, or to just be a fan of all things Post. General constructive criticism is OK, too, but if you want to get specific, or indeed acerbic, then you'll probably find there are better places to post that sort of thing (see above).

These are ideal conversation starters:

  • "I've got an idea for a new h2g2 Post column."
  • "What's your favourite h2g2 Post cartoon?"
  • "Can someone read my poem before I submit it?"
  • "Has anyone ever seen Skankyrich and Robert Maxwell in the same room?"

Feel free to post any practical questions, too...

  • "How do I get my cartoons in the Post?"
  • "How do I get a voiceover made for my story?"

... but if you have a more direct technical request for the Post Team or Aviators group, then you can always post it there, of course.

Just remember that the audience for this forum may not be as large as, say, that for Askh2g2, but everyone reading your comments will be a fully signed up fan of the h2g2 Post.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
