To return to the original point: nothing bloody happens here! I've been off on some superb conversations elsewhere and when I come back here and refresh bugger all has happened!
It's a mighty, mighty shame.

I spent a lot of time doing intros and outros for an AViators thing that is conspicuous by its absence, the AViators AV is well intentioned but doesn't really cut it in a world where teenagers can whack out professional content (I include myself in the less-than-professional bit here) and there aren't any bloody conversations going on!
We don't even get to say hello to the moderators. That is the thing that is really making me feel a wedge between h2g2 and the community, and the thing that is bringing all my old gripes back to the surface.
Right now I've six tabs open for six different forums. The only one I feel no need to refresh regularly is h2g2.

Yeah, I know. It's just a tad saddening that such a great site is so underachieving. I'd much rather be having the chats here that I'm having elsewhere (well, OK, most of them wouldn't be allowed, but you know what I mean.)
This is my cuddly, warm online home. I want to do more here!

The things that keep other places busy are beyond h2g2 in its current form. If I've a photo of something and want to share it with online friends I have to go elsewhere to do it; if I've a piece of music that I want to share I have to go elsewhere to do it. h2g2 was never set up to do these things but the fact that it still can't, when added to the general slowness, means I'm going elsewhere. I don't want to go elsewhere: I love h2g2. It just ain't fulfilling my needs anymore. I've a couple of things I would love to write entries about, and a shedload of ideas for the AViators, but it just seems like pissing into the wind when the site itself is so uninspiring.
I'm really quite upset about this.

The site is as the site does, D. Yeah we all have other places to go to, but this is 'me home'. It's not the same but all places evolve. I've got more friends here than anywhere else.

Maybe you've just outgrown Hootoo? I agree that posting photos or Youtube films is great and it would be nice if H2G2 did these things, but then, it wouldn't be Hootoo any more.
DNA was a master of the written word, using language to convey complicated ideas in an understandable way & the Guide is an extension of that.
H2G2 was fun & interesting before you discovered new technologies elsewhere. Hootoo hasn't changed - you have. Ok, it's a bit ZX Spectrum in a Pentium world, but it's not that H2G2 can't compete - it's just different.
For all it's faults, H2G2 has the strongest sense of community of any board I've seen. No other board I've come across has meets and mini-meets and micro-meets all over the world on a regular basis. H2G2 manages to combine the features of a blog and a MB in one place.
I still think the good weather is a factor in things getting quieter.

h2g2 isn't what DNA wanted it to be, which is fair enough: the internet is becoming what DNA wanted h2g2 to be and h2g2 has been left behind. One couldn't expect h2g2 to fill a role that has been filled by a million different websites.
Maybe I have outgrown h2g2. I joined h2g2 four years ago: I've become more net savvy in that time but h2g2 doesn't seem to have grown with me.
The internet is full of sites that are full of people that use language the way we do on hootoo: I wouldn't be a member of the other sites I'm a member of if there wasn't intelligent banter on them.
I've made good friends on other sites, and have felt an equal sense of community on other sites. The fact is that I like this community more and would like to contribute more but am increasingly feeling like I'm part of a luddite stronghold that would rather let the ship run aground than buy a bloody sonar.

It could be my age.
The thing that's brought this on is having had a signature and a post removed in the last week. On most sites you'd know the moderators as they'd be part of the community: on this site they are dark, shadowy beings with no community interest or interaction. That makes me feel uncomfortable. I'm used to having a drink with forum mods and find the distance of h2g2's nods uncomfortable. This, in addition to the points I've made in previous posts in this thread, is making the place feel less and less like the home it once did and that I'd love it to again.
Facebook sucks, but it has a h2g2 group.

For as it was written so again it will be written and the great big sucky thing of the night will sucky in the night until the big yellow wobbly round thing of heat raiseth from the gaping chasm of the unmittigated darkness of the cold darkness of the night-time hinterland
