The finest moment of that programme was when he told his pub chef to use the local farmer four miles away. The face of Shitsburys says, and I quote 'We've got to get you off your nationals, mate'.
Five minutes later he implores the kids parent to sign up again by saying that they should give the money to the school, not the High Street. Priceless.

I did wonder if he had to hide the Nectar card (and paycheque) before sying that...

Obviously i haven't had the dubious joy of ever even seeing JO on TV over here, but have read all about it. The French would be "ooh la la!" & at the idea of feeding their little darlings anything except decent froggie food at school, they have recently banned all junk food & any drinks except water or "pure" fruit juice.
I do agree with his campaign to stop feeding kids crap then wondering why they turn into chubby sloths or alternatively hyperactive thugs.
I thought he was going into schools to do this, can't see why he has to drag 'em kicking & screaming out of churches. Will he be going into the local mosque next?
As for the great religious debate, i don't think you can say "it shouldn't be allowed" 'cos that in itself is acting as a dictator. But i don't believe anyone should be allowed to presurise others into "believing". As for sending kids to Sunday School,Koran classes; synagogue school or whatever...unfortunately kids are kids, ie young & usually unable to say to to parental pressure until they get to a certain age
My mother, amongst her other delightful character traits (you know, paranoid schizophrenia, extreme violence, that sort of minor detail) was a religious nut & i was packed off to Sunday School. It didn't actually bother me too much, most of the time seemed to be spent colouring in pics of Bible scenes. I did once ask the teacher about Dear Mama's threat that i was so evil i would roast in Hell & she laughed "Don't worry about that, she's the one that needs to worry! No god would put a kid in hell, especially not one who can colour in so nicely!"

Religion should come with a health warning. All religious texts should be submitted to the British Board of Censors. All religious leaders must be licensed by the state, speak English and not on benefit. Churches and religious sites must be subject to Ofsted inspection.

To be fair, the kids had done a little play and things for their Easter service. It looked like he went there knowing a lot of the parents would be there, and he needed to speak to them about the whole healthy eating scheme. Fair enough, really.

That's a fair point - JO didn't go there for the religious connection. The fact that the kids were doing something to celebrate Easter is what gets me (just as it would if they were celebrating any other religious festival).
As an aside: I haven't seen the first four series of Spooks. I watched the first two episodes of season 5 yesterday and the third tonight. It's really rather good.

"Preaching to the converted" springs to mind. I would lay odds that the sort of parents who do the church stuff probably are well aware of the healthy eating message.
He should go down & try persuading the customers at the local Mac Donalds, he could become the UK answer to José Bové.

Er, you haven't seen the large-bottied kids of the large-bottied evangelical ladies in Brixton recently...

I'd take whatever odds you lay. Most of children had parents with them, and quite a few of those had pulled out of the scheme - he was having a job talking them back into it. I don't think every parent that wants to see his/her child in a play necessarily feeds them good food as well. The odds of him finding a significant proportion of the parents of his pilot school in the village McDonalds at any one time would be pretty slim, but at the school play were actually probably quite good.

I think i can manage to live without that pleasure thank you!
I do admire Jose Bove's methods though "Right, we don't want this sodding Mc Donalds on our doorstep, so we are simply going to demolish it & dump the rubble on the Town Hall doorstep so they get the message."
