My first question is about the quote attributed to 'Guards'. Is there a character called Guards, or did a character who is a guard say that? Or do a lot of guards say the same thing just as in, say, a Real Time Strategy game all the Infantrymen might say 'Yes General!' when you click on them?

It's - like you say - one of the standard sentences of all guards in the game. They say lots of other things too, but that one is the best known quote.
