Sub-Editing Austria - a virtual tour

Hi Tavaron

I'm helping to sub-edit your Project - the new version of the Entry on Tyrol is here A87811770 Please subscribe!

I visited Austria some years ago, but only saw Vienna (We could have done with your Entry about Austria then, as Dad didn't bring much cash as he thought he could rely on credit cards, but no. It meant we mostly ate cheap (yummy smiley - biggrin ) potatoes and chestnuts from the sellers in the streets and had to go to the only restaurant near the hotel that accepted credit cards! Not a very exciting range of food, but we were OK). I enjoyed reading your Entry on Tyrol - it sounds like a beautiful place, and you describe the spectacular scenery really well smiley - biggrin

I have a few questions about Tyrol:

The first word in bold is "Tirol" - is that the local spelling of the name of the region?

What was Maximilian I's title?

I'm confused by this sentence: "The usual way of going from west to east in Austria leads to the Bavarian border at the end of the Inntal lies the town Kufstein with its impressing medieval castle."

It looks like it needs splitting into two sentences - please could you rewrite it for me?

Thank you! smiley - ok

Hi smiley - smiley

'The first word in bold is "Tirol" - is that the local spelling of the name of the region?'
Yes, I put the German spelling/name of each state at the top of each Entry.

'What was Maximilian I's title?'
He was Emperor.

Thinking about that sentence...

Joining this thread as I'm subbing a couple of these Entries too.

The Entry Salzburg, didn't need much doing to it, just a stray apostrophe and an extra internal link. It's here: A87809133

Can I return it?

cheers smiley - cheers

In this sentence in the Tyrol Entry I'd just add a fullstop:

"The usual way of going from west to east in Austria leads to the Bavarian border. At the end of the Inntal lies the town Kufstein with its impressing medieval castle."

Great that there were so few mistakes. smiley - smiley Of course, yes, return it.

You wrote: 'East of Innsbruck lies the 700-year-old Town Hall of Tyrol.'
No, sorry, 'Hall in Tirol' is the name of the town.
My original sentence was correct: 'East of Innsbruck lies the 700 year old town Hall in Tirol.'

Therefore the next sentence also has to be changed back please (Close to Hall is another very popular tourist attraction:...)

Hi again Tavaron!

In Burgenland A87811789 I tidied a few typos and added in some links.

The only bit I'm confused about is "The museum of the state Burgenland" - is that the name of a museum?

Thanks smiley - ok

You are right, the wording is not good. Basically every state has a museum about this state. About the history, nature, etc.

Upper Austria has been subbed, mostly just a few missing commas and a couple of instances of 'like' being changed for 'such as'

The subbed version is here: A87811798

If you spot any typos I've inadvertently introduced, or anything else, let me know and I'll fix it.

Hi Tavaron

The new version of Styria is here A87812436smiley - biggrin

I enjoyed this one as well - particularly the phrase "an alien blob of ooze" - superb description! smiley - laughsmiley - aliensmile

I have a couple of questions:

" 17th Baroque palace Eggenberg " - is that 17th *Century* Baroque palace?

"Ever since stalls sold votive offerings to the pilgrims and the gingerbread from Mariazell is known all over Austria" - I'm not clear what this sentence means - is it that the gingerbread has been famous since the days of the first stalls selling votive offerings?

smiley - ok

Ah - I just spotted one other thing:

"From Bad Aussee it is only a short trip to the Salzkammergut in Upper Austria."

Earlier in the paragraph, you say that Bad Aussee is in the Salzkammergut, so I'm a bit confused. Could I just delete the sentence?

smiley - ok

Yes, it's '17th Century', the word obviously got missing.

And 'ever since' is one of my frequent mistakes smiley - blush
Please change it to 'at all times' or 'always' something like that.

There is a distinction between the Styrian Salzkammergut and the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut.
Maybe change the first sentence of the paragraph to ' Bad Aussee and Altaussee, which are part of the Styrian Salzkammergut' delete the brackets and add the link to Upper Austria at the end.
