The annual Drumcree church parade (Portadown)is actually in memory of those who fell at ther Battle of the Somme. (Not quite 800 years ago).

Not really,
they are celebrating the victory of the protestant army at the Battle of Boyne (I think it was in 1696).

Well, why do they always refer to the Battle of Boyne? Maybe you can explain it to me, if you want to? Thanks.

The Battle of the Boyne is 'celebrated' on 12th July. It took place in 1690 (1st July, Julian calendar, 12th July, Gregorian calendar).
The contentious Drumcree parade, in Portadown occurs on the first Sunday in July, and does indeed commemorate the Battle of the Somme.
The confusion arises because it is the Orange Order who are involved in both parades.
