Nice to find another John Irving reader - I love mostly all of his books, especially "The New Hampshire Hotel". What do you think about films based upon his novels?

Glad you like the page, I fear it may have been far from great for a while as I took a look at it last night for the first time in about a week and all I had was a page full of code. Anyway I have removed all the guideML and it seems to be working again.


I really enjoyed the films of Garp and Hotel, but a direct comparison is difficult as I watched the films years ago and only read the books in the last year (I am a late convert to non science Fiction). I keep intending to buy or rent the films again to see how true to the books they are. I think I would have to say A Prayer for Owen Meany is my favourite John Irving book though.

Best not to get into a cats v dogs discussion as I will no doubt cause offence and as I already seem to have upset Joanna with my view on cars I am trying not to come across as too much of an arse at the moment. I think we just have to accept their are 2 types of people in life; Cat people and Dog people.

well, I can't agree with you. Lets better say there are 2 types: those who like animals and those who don't like them.

BTW: I was looking at your page in the 'classic skin', 'cause I don't like the 'alabaster' one AT ALL! So I stay with the option blue and hope, that also newcommers to h2g2 will have the possibility to choose

I thinks perhaps generalisations are letting both our arguments down, but I understand and appreciate where you are coming from.

Trying to hit a balance on the colours hence the current look, but I am beginning to think the only way around it is a radical redesign.
