any yes, TC, it is arrogant. It's not breaking any rules, except those of normal polite conversation, and I'm never sure if the posters do it out of ignorance of normal conversational conventions or just to show how flipping clever they are (I have my suspicions...)
anyway - I want more details of MB and Psycorp's mum....

I propose a new house rule against camels. They're trouble makers.

Camels! why do there always have to be camels?
Are we talking about single or double humps?
Maybe we should stick to the cigarettes?

Cigarettes? Cigarettes are rolled-up cylinders of tobacco wrapped in paper. People burn one end and suck the other, and it's called "smoking".
Just in case some readers weren't sure...

*liberal application of the slapping hand** comes KBs way*
**hand - A hand (med./lat.: manus, pl. manūs) is a prehensile, multi-fingered extremity located at the end of an arm or forelimb of primates and humans, chimpanzees, monkeys, and lemurs.

How can you trust an entity that can go for days - weeks even - without drinking?
I second the proposition i posting #42
Of course it had to be 42

"Posts may fail if they are considered likely to disrupt, provoke or attack or offend others"
"No Spitting"
The offend others is actually a very loose rule that could be applied in these situations. Perhaps though the first thing to do is to draw it to the attention of the moderators through the yikes button (quick and easy) and they can keep track of behaviour in the forums.

Someone doing something productive on hootoo! What are the odds?
I may have just weighed in on whether I find someone annoying

I don't know how I come across online, but I do know that in real life I have a certain tendancy to turn conversations into lectures on "stuff TRiG finds interesting". (I think I'm getting better at controlling this now.) I have sometimes told people they're allowed to tell me to shut up if I'm going on about something for too long.
I suspect such an offence against good manners is less egreigious online, as it's easier to skip. I don't really know to what extent I *do* offend online, but I don't post a vast amount here anyway, so probably not much.
I hope.
TRiG.

I have learned a great deal from people telling about what they find interesting. If it isn't interesting or they just go on and on I skip the postings
I hope people have done the same when I go overboard

nobody here is annoying online. Especially not you TRiG and
and i don't mind learning stuff - I've learned a LOT of things since I arrived at h2g2, and there has even been the odd occasion where I've re-evaluated what I think about something.
I just don't like it when someone assumes that everyone reading a thread knows nothing about the subject and then tells everyone how to suck eggs.

I am guilty of taking threads off topic. For which I humbly apologise
It's like one of those word association games, one word sparks off another and fairly soon it's 'OOoh... Shine new buttons!'
