Huzzah!
In a similar vein, I've spent the last ten years looking for a series of horror stories, written by Anthony Horowitz, called The Power of Five. About a year ago he started releasing rewritten versions of them, which is a little less personal than tracking them on ebay, but probably cheaper in the long run (especially as I'm getting the second volume from a friend in the trade who got to go to the launch at the Peruvian Embassy - I want to go to a book launch at the Peruvian Embassy!).

when you launch your book, launch it there, and don't forget to invite me!!!
the first book, which is the second in the series, arrived yesterday
The third book should get there any day now...
But more excitingly, today I am sending the money for Green Smoke. I am really about this - and so is my mum who is receiving them for me.

oh and I found some original Noggin the Nog books on Abe, and all round about 20quid, which is fab.
But they're on my christmas list

I'm really happy you like abe, I've been with them for years now, they're always the first I check when I'm looking for a book.

of course is cross... yet another opportunity to:
a) fill the house with books
which is not as bad as
b) spend all our money

well, you know... Amazon will remain my one true internet lurve. (aside of Mr.P from the thread ) I well remember those dark days BA (before Amazon) when I was really restricted in my selection of books in English. And they were sooooo expensive.
Which is one reason I (used to) love Amsterdam so much. Not only the American bookshop, and the discount bookshop (mostly books in English) but also... WH Smith.
But also very expensive, a trip to Amsterdam for a couple of paperbacks.
exciting stuff!

We do have a Brirish bookshop in the inner city, but they either don't know which book I'm looking for ( once I had forgotten the title, I just could tell the author and what it was about, and they were unable to find out, I had to go to a German bookstore, grab the transalted version, look for the original title and go back), the next time, they weren't able to order the book I wanted to have, ok, that was not their fault, but I got contradicting reports and went there in vain) -and they aren't any cheaper than any local bookstore, so I gave up going there, it#s just a waste of time and money

well, I must admit that I love Amazon, especially the marketplace, I've got some pretty good stuff from them. But for the Green Smoke book I was looking at around $150 (ok it was a hardback) compared to the 10 quid that I am paying now (which is pretty expensive but not bad for an out of print book that I really really want)
But I can see a new addiction to Abe coming on...
exciting stuff!
aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Apr 1, 2006
I never know how much that is, 10 quid = £10.00 ? If so, that's only about 10% of the 150$, so a good price after all

Sho - employed again! Posted Apr 1, 2006
noooo $150 is about £100.00 I think.
A lot anyway
(how do you make the £-sign?)
exciting stuff!
aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Apr 1, 2006
I know how much £ 150 $ is, but I still don't know how much 10 quid are
I cut the £, then saved it in my outlook
exciting stuff!
Sho - employed again! Posted Apr 1, 2006
oh sorry, quids are pounds
I don't have a £ on this keyboard, and I never remember the shortcut.
anyway, the book which cost £8 arrived today. Because I had to change € to £ a the bank, I sent £10 and asked the guy to send the change with the book. Which he did - so that's nice!
exciting stuff!
aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Apr 1, 2006
So I was right, it was only about 10 % of the original sum And it's nice that the guy sent the change
Is there a shortcut for £ ? I doN't know it either, that's why I cut ands pasted from wordpad
exciting stuff!
Sho - employed again! Posted Apr 1, 2006
I'm not following you. $150 would be about 100 pounds.
Ah, you mean the price I paid.
Sorry, I was in the office late last night... well, until early this morning. I got home at 2:30am... and yes, I'd been working all that time
I plead tiredness for being completely unable to understand simple english!
exciting stuff!
aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Apr 1, 2006
Oh, I guess it wasn't simple English but I probably twisted it somehow - always aiming at the highest possible confusion, that's me
exciting stuff!
Sho - employed again! Posted Apr 1, 2006
no really... I've been doing it all day.
It's going to be a wonder to me when I get to work on Monday if the month end stuff I did last night is actually right
