Sho - employed again!

I have The Hobbit as an mp3 (thanks to the lovely Leopardskinfynn) read by the equally lovely Martin Shaw, so I might just let him read to the Gruesomes.

I have to say that it is great fun reading to them these days, digging out all the books I loved as a child, and reading all the new ones.

there is a series of Rainbow Fairy books, I think there are more than 20 of them now, that we are collecting, and some Unicorn books, which I would have loved as a girl.

I don't know any English children's books, or not many, but used to read to my boys a lot when they were small. They have TLOTR on CD, listened to it again and again

can you recommend me any Jacqueline Wilson books for the Gruesoms? whenever I decide to buy one, I'm overwhelmed by the mass of stuff she has written.

B'Elana, I read English and German books - but I'm not so up on the German stuff, so if you can recommend me anything they might like, it might even improve my German smiley - laugh

Oh, there are many books I loved and my boys loved, ever heard of Otfried Preussler ? They're childrenÄs classics. Or Michael Ende, or the Sams books by Paul Maar

I can't as Alex doesn't have any but I think she watches Tracy Beaker on TV smiley - sorry

Alex does like the Princess Diaries, I must admit I like Meg Cabot too, I've read some of her stuff for teenagers like the Mediator series and the Missing series, they are for the older teenager as they quite heavy reading for kids

Congrats on the successes with Green Smoke; I know how long you've been looking for those (I knew reading the first post that that was what you were talking about).

If you're looking for children's books (recommendations, rather than buying) try http://improbability.ultralab.net/writeaway/frame.htm
It's a site I write reviews for.

wondered when you'd happen along.
Fingers crossed, with my just under 7 quid bid I'm still the highst bidder but there are 12 hours to go.

A woman from UK has a copy of Green Smoke which she'll keep for me if I don't get these, but it's only the one and it's double the price.

I've also written to Puffin...

Thanks for the site, that's bookmarked. smiley - biggrin (do I have to guess which are your reviews?)

B'Elana - thanks, we have read Die Kleine Hexe (incidentally, the first book I ever read in German) and I'm going to get a few more of his, they are nice books. I suppose I really ought to join the local library.

Dark Side of the Goon

Well...now the tension is killing me. I've nibbled my nails down to the knuckle!

Didja get the book?

nope

B'Elana, I was prepared to go to 10 quid, but I didn' want to bid too early because there was only one other person bidding. When I went to put my bid in, the PC crashed, then when I got back there was 30 seconds to go and... it crashed again.

I've found some more in Australia. Not too expensive. so I'll go for those.

That eBay adreneline thing is strange, isn't it.

It's not so much the bidding that increases my adrenaline, but the waiting for the goods to arrive - I've had cases where I mailed, and mailed, and once I even called the seller - before I finally got what I had paid for. I'm very reluctant to use ebay now. smiley - erm

really?

I've only used eBay to buy from "shops" apart from one record which was 2nd hand and only cost €1

But I have to admit tat if I had one bad experience I'd never use it again.

so excited!!!!

I got (via Abe books - thank you B'Elana you are wonderful!) Dragon in Danger and The Dragon's quest (books 2 and 3) - well... I've sent off the payment, and the books should go to my mum's address pretty soon.

And today I found a lady who will send me Green Smoke (the first book) for a good price, I'll send her the money on Friday. And I'm just waiting back to hear from a guy with Dragon in the Harbour (book 4). Both of those frm Abe too.

Dragon in the Harbour was new to me - no wonder, it didn't come out until 1980. About the time my Dad gave all my books to Oxfam smiley - wah
