Sho - employed again!

he was totally mesmerising. It is definitely worth watching the original, if only to see how Chaplin moved his accent from cockney-sparrer to RP.

But he is unutterably gorgeous, and some of the finest acting skills. Ever. In the scene when he finds out that Hetty died. Mesmerising.

In other news, I watched Pacific Rim yesterday. Some seriously hot, manly totty in that. And a very very cute, heartbreaking, little Japanese girl.

Hi Sho, regarding Southcliffe, if you can take your eyes off Mr Kinnear, you might spot me! I did a day as an extra, you can see me in episode 3, about halfway through, when he gets his key at the hotel. I'm at the bar. smiley - redwine

Sitting in a pub all day, pretending to be sitting in a pub was always going to be fun! Film extras work (almost) always is. I find it fascinating and you meet such interesting people. Sadly I've never been near any of the drool thread regulars. For example, although Jude Law was in Hugo, his character was only seen in flashbacks.

My one ambition is to be in Doctor Who. I have it in my agency details that I will travel to Cardiff if required. smiley - tardis

Ooh, leather. I know he's a repeat on here but blimey Ben Browder is insanely hot. The last series of Stargate SG-1 is basically a droolathon.

Sorry but I love Vala. She's so much fun. Can't remember the stuff with Carter

Carter started as this brilliant feisty woman who was really really holding her own in 2 men's worlds (theoretical astrophysics AND the USAF). More than holding her own. She wasn't defined by her looks, her relationships or ANYTHING girly. Just as a male character would be.

There were plotlines, of course, where her gender played a role, but she rose above all that, as a character. It was just fantastic to have her on the TV. And then... after about S7 I think she was just a brainless blonde on the show. Well, not really, but compared to what she had been. Becuase, of course, the writers had ditzy idiotic sexpot Vala to play with and then couldn't handle a woman like Sam.

Female characters in the early seasons were often very very good. Sam, Janet etc. And then came flippin' Vala.

And yes, I have spent far far far too long thinking and talking about this smiley - smiley

Can't help but disagree: Sam remains an amazing character right up until the end, able to hold her own with both the brainbox Jackson and the soldier boy O'Neill/Mitchell.

There was actually quite a nice line in last nights episode where Cameron described how he couldn't boss his team around because "Carter's just as good a soldier with a brain the size of a planet, Teal'c is an alien and Jackson is a civilian".

I don't think Vala is idiotic or ditzy either: she outwits most of SG-1 at one point or another. She's flippant and not serious but that's just a facade. She's got some real substance to it.

It helps that both Amanda Tapping and Claudia Black are great actresses who really care aboout their characters. I love watching interviews with Tapping where she talks about Carter, how she really got that character and when things un-Cartery were written, she'd make them change it.

we're going to have to agree to disagree about the later seasons of Stargate because I just absolutely hate it. (having been a MASSIVE fan - it's really sad for me)

In other news: Wentworth Millar, a previous smiley - droolthread favourite has come out. In a totally cool and understated but powerful way.

And it was a shock to find out he's 41 - not at all out of my age range!!! smiley - drool

Buzzfeed did a great piece about him coming out as 41. It was a real shock to discover smiley - biggrin

I'd heard the rumours for a long time (since he was on Buffy) and saw some pretty compelling evidence. Still, that was an awesome way to 'officially' come out.

I think he just kept it private and that's how it should be if that's how he wants it, I don't think he talks much about his private life at all.

But that letter waas flippin' brilliant.

In other news, smiley - droolers - Ben Affleck as smiley - batman. What do we think?

Cliff Simon as Baal - smiley - drool indeed. Admittedly I do have a weak spot for bad guys in leather smiley - handcuffssmiley - evilgrin

Somewhere (can't find it now) there's a photo of Ben Browder with bare torso cuffed to the headbord (by amnesic Vala) from season ten. Used have that as desktop background on my old netbook.

When the pilot episode of SG-1 (Children of gods) was re-edited the scene where Sam tells Jack that the fact that her reproductive organs are internal doesn't make her a worse soldier was cut. Pity because that was an important statement, reprised in the AU episode (Moebius) where SG-1 goes back in time to ancient Egypt and alters the future.

Unfortunately the strong women i SG are either killed, bimboised or knocked up.

it used to make me laugh that all the young girls/women in the online fandom hated the reproductive organs line, and i LOVED it. Wish I'd thought of that when I was still in the military, I can tell you.

And the handcuffed Cam picture - i know that one smiley - drool
