Kids eh, never fail to make me smile.
I'm lucky enough to have 3 grandsons (2 I don't see often enough) and my partner Ian has 6 grandchildren, 5 who are grown-up (and one's even in the process of reproducing) and a little boy aged 3, who we get to spend time with every week. We've seen him today and he makes the world a better place.
There's part of me that longs for all the worry and sadness about Mum's situation to be over, but I know I will miss her when she has gone. Things are only getting worse, not better, and I fear it's going to last a while longer yet. It's all I can do to make her comfortable, pain-free and keep her occupied. I can't make her better. I think I have accepted that now.

Yeah, well sorry for all the agro you've got dealing with the white coat brigade. But I understand how you feel. Been through it with my mom having a massive stoke and my dad had a bad heart. I know they are going to a better place where they'll be young again and have a better time of it.
Dr Tyson is quite a funny guy for an astrophysicist---his interviews were funny. Getting hate mail from 3rd graders when he demoted their favorite planet. He thought Pluto would be much happier joining the team of the other asteroids out there. I hope you;ll have a clear view of the meteor showers later in August. Some of them are so bright they'll be visible even in light polluted cities.

I'm sure I remember Neil deGrasse Tyson from a programme I used to watch called The Universe, he's quite charismatic.
This Monday we're going to a star party at the home of the chap who runs my local astronomy club, he hosts one every year to coincide with the Perseids peak. It'll be Ian's first time I just hope it's clear, so he's in for a treat

Loved the pics, especially the one with the aurora. Two wonders in one shot. See if you or Ian can hear those suckers---evidently they can give off waves of really low radio frequency waves as they plummet.

It's raining off and on here so we might not go to the star party after all. I did see 6 meteors last night though, and the ISS

That's a shame. Still 6 is nothng to sneeze at, and the ISS too. . I am afraid that the viewing time is too late into the night and almost dawn here. Been stuggling under too hot weather and sleep disorders so as, so we won't be watching this year. It would be very
to camp out at this time in one of the national parks to see them though.
Oh did you hear them at all?

it was cloudy last night so we went to bed, but at 1.30am I looked out and saw a meteor flash past. So out we went for half-an-hour and Ian saw his first-ever meteors
Yes we listened but didn't hear anything (only far-off traffic)
