Rumination on Forums and the like.....
Posted Jun 23, 2000
No blinding insights, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the 'Teenage Issues' Forum that has been running over the last couple of days. Very informed opinions, some not so informed, as ever, byt excellent discussion all round! I must search for more of the same.....

Flaming June!

And I think it's time for a Spring clean; not only of the immaculately kept Okapi Living Room, but also of the less than tidy Okapi Study.
The Study resembles an explosion in a paper factory, somewhat akin to the interior of the venerable Okapi head - all snippets of interesting stuff, but very little organisation. I know where everything is; can put my hand on it in a second, but guests need to be able to find hteir way without me having to hover at their shoulders, offering help and advice on where best to find interesting tid-bits.
The only bits and pieces that friends might be comfortable rummaging around in are the album shelves. As I say, alphabetically
organised. Look at this - pristine! Bought from someone who had, for some reason, decided to get rid of an huge number of his vinyl collection. Cost me a fiver and it's still got ALL the original photos and inserts. Not a scratch or a blemish on the records OR the Cover! Got to be one of my favourites - The Beatles 'White Album'.
What's your's ? And please, lets not get into the CD's are better than Vinyl argument - I refuse to be drawn. When was the last YOU sat down comfortably to listen to some music, and opened the the cover of a CD and enjoyed not only the music but the bits 'n' bobs on the cover, with out the aid of an atomic powered microscope and a pair of glasses? A?!A?!A?!

Tuesday 23rd May.....
Posted May 23, 2000
......and would this be the my second day as The Okapi, or my fifth? It's certainly the second ENTRY...anyway...what makes my day buzz?
When I'm working, work. Am I alone in actually enjoying what I do? It sometimes seems that way; and the perfect way to unwind (for me,at least)is the newly discovered pleasure of waffling away here. I've several notions for an article, but only time will if they are ever going to appear in the Guide proper!
What do I do? I work with kids...for a specialist fostering team connected to Social Services. Now that might make an interesting entry for the Guide......

Day One as The Okapi....
Posted May 18, 2000
....or more specifically, 18th May, 2000. I hope this gets easier....anyway, having spent yesterday discovering the existence of the Guide in this form and most of today ( in between doing the mundane work thing )thinking about what I could write, I think I shall
merely limit myself to a little 'stream of conciousness' rambling. Like: anoraks - what are they? Or from some points of view, WHO are they and what actually constitutes one that breed? Are we all anoraks?
Even if we don't wear them, or at least call them anoraks; it might be a seventies throwback thing, they were called Parkas in those days.So are we parkas? And if we are, do we have Lady Penelope somewhere in tow...a female Parka....or would it be Parkette/Anorette?
Could this be construed as sexist or perhaps used by a drug company as a brand name for a new smoking patch?
Any notions?
