I've found Utopia...and other like-minded souls!
Posted Dec 6, 2000
Seems that it's been a while since I last scribbled something here, so now's the time to rectify that oversight! Recently been in conversation with such lovely folk as Purplejenny and The Unmentionable Marauding Pillowcase, and have been introduced to the delights of the Utopia Cafebar ( http://www.h2g2.com/A465842 ). Pop by and say hello and get involved in what everyone is doing. Eat cake, drink PGGB's, or tea, if that's your fancy, and discuss all things...even how to save the planet. Don't worry! It's great fun.
Just had my second article kicked upstairs to the Sub's, so that's nice. All about the town where I live...and if I could find the 'A' number, I'd put a link in...but it's in the PR place at the moment and it's called 'A Medieval Town, Past and Present.' We need more local knowledge, I reckon. Strange, but even though my knowldge of the 'H' has grown over the months, I'm still finding amamzing people to talk with and fascinating stuff that I knew nothing about...which, to me, is part of the enjoyment of being involved with the 'H'. Tell a friend!

Well, well, well...
First entry accepted into the Guide; front page stuff AND the Editors recommendation for the 18th Oct! Pat on the back..? I wonder.
As a Scout, I go round looking at other peoples writing, enjoying it and doing that recomendation thing...feeling that the piece I recommend, whilst, pergaps, needing a little tart up here and there; a couple of colon's adding or comma taking away, it will, essentially, remain in the form that I first saw and enjoyed it!
If MY experience of editing (thusfar) is anything to go by, then I think I shall probably be handing in my Scout badge before too long.
I wouodn't wnat to be responsible for having somebodies work cut about and rewritten in such a way as to make it unrecognisable!
The piece I wrote on 'Torture' was a piece I felt NEEDED to be written - and the fact that it ended up where it did ius testament to that point. But the piece that was on the front page, bore very little resembelence to the words which I had spent a great deal of time working on!
The editor obviously did what HE thought was necessary and I've no real quibble with that; but I perhaps it would have been nice? polite? to have had a little bit of a chat with me to see about changing the piece quite so radically......still, I'm glad it's up there, doing some good ( I hope! )but it will be a long time before I submit another piece to be Edited, I can tell you!

The Joys of the 'H'!

Sounds like a bad French 'erotic' novel, dunnit?!
Noooo - I mean this strange and enchanting patch of ether known as H2G2! Now I've really started to get into it, I'm finding that there aren't enough hours in the day to do what I REALLY want to do here...sudenly I've got more projects in mind than I can reasonably find time for. Bloody marvellous!
BUT I still can't get the GuideML thingy to work that will put some spanking .gifs and the like on me page! Damn! Still, nil desperandum, we'll just keep trying, and who knows? It might work one day!
Gotta love hte 'H'!

Procrastination is the thief of time....can't recall who said that, but s/he was dead right!
I've been ruminating upon actually writing an entry, but the more I wander around this place, the more I find myself changing my mind!
I'm slowly getting the hang of GuideML ( I'm a technophobe, as I believe I've said elsewhere, and the actual nuts and bolts of this technical stuff worry me more than a little )but time will tell and I'm sure there are several little gems just waiting to be born!
In the meanwhile, I'm trying to figure out how to get graphics plastered into the page to make it a little more welcoming.
Practice, practice, all is getting on and doing, I s'pose!
Watch this space.....if you've a month or two to spare!

Scouts....and what they do.
Posted Aug 19, 2000
Well, my email has never been busier, nor have I ever been quite so confused, but in a nice way. It's actually rather pleasant to have whip around all these different sites and places and figure out how to actually USE this infernal machine sitting in the study!
Personally, I have just under a month to come to terms with my newly aquired role as a Scout at h2g2, until I am actully expected to do something; which is kind of handy - it means I can take my time and learn from what other Scouts are up to. ( Gives me time to practise using GuideML too!)
Nice to see all the enthusiasm engendered by the Scout scheme as well.I really must start leaving a few 'hello' messages scattered around the joint and get to know my fellow Scouts a little better.
