Myrddin Is Sick...
Mr Jack Started conversation Feb 21, 2005
My PC has been struck down with a mysterious condition. I know not if it be virus or worm or trojan or what. But he can't connect to the internet, the A drive is dead and many of the programmes have gone weird and not in a good way.
So I won't be around at weekends and will likely only be checking e mail during the week.
It will be sometime before I can afford to pay someone to look at it, if I can figure out what's wrong myself.

Have you tried a clean reinstall?
It sucks when technology craps out on you. Been there, done that, invested in a bunch of CD-RWs.

Mr Jack Posted Feb 22, 2005
I have resorted to a complete reinstall yet, will get some advice from someone that knows what they are doing before that, should it be needed.

My last post of course wouldn't make much sense to anyone not familiar with where the name Myrddin comes from...

Thank Whoever I got introduced to Megatokyo last week. Otherwise, I'd have no chance of understanding that.
Sorry. Mom was an English teacher. I got spelling drilled into me.

Mr Jack Posted Feb 26, 2005
Until now I had thought Megatokyo to be the good thing to come 4rom L33t. Still I guess l33t and cut and paste alphabet are what I'm gonna rely on 4or bit.

Still, perhaps there is some keyboard / regional setting gone wild? Several times I've hit the wrong keys and suddenly my keyboard types as if it were English American, not Swedish, and the keys are pretty jumbled (the åäö and all the !¤%"&! stuff) And sometimes the numlock perhaps believes it is supposed to work like arrow keys... Just a thought.

Is it just keys, or are programs weird too?

You typed "programme". You must be English Brit.
So I guessed right! LOL.
Alright, I am away from Internetland for now.
Bye bye.

I'm British, I was born in England, I'm of Welsh ancestry on my mother's side and that's the only side that counts, to me.

You think the Welsh are the true British?
Hmmm, I do know that the Welsh are the Celts who fell westwards as the Angles and Saxons came invading. But I won't talk about that. Instead I thought of a movie I saw years ago, and again last year. This movie is called "The Englishman who went up a Hill and came down a Mountain". This movie is about the true story of a Welsh village and its villagers who were proud of their mountain. But the English surveyors who came to their village in 1917 scaled the mountain and measured it be a hill. The mountain was short of the 1000 foot height. But the Welsh decided to not settle with that judgement, and they started to haul dirt and mud and pile that stuff on top of their short mountain to make it measure up. Have you seen this movie?
My British background is a mix of all the British Isles peoples, so that is Scottish, Irish, and Southern English (as I call it) with that fabulous Anglosaxon mix. The Anglosaxon mix probably includes Roman, but I am not sure. My last name is Hill, and whenever I watch movies made by the English, I see many-a-time the last name Hill show up in the credits!
You would like to see Canada? It is a very wide and big country. LOL. You want to come to the Great White North? I have to tell you to avoid staying in the cities. If you want to see any true wilderness whatsoever, avoid the human urban dwellings -- but you already know that. Toronto, in Ontario, for instance, is just like an American city. I call Toronto the Los Angeles of the North. City of Angels is an ironic name. LOL.
[this is some dribble about Canada]
Canada's three major cities, which are Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal are great cosmopolitan centres but with only urban jungle. Obviously, if you were to come to Canada you were to arrive at one of these cities. You would arrive in Toronto if you were flying from the UK. If you want to see the Canadian Rockies, you would have to take a transfer flight from Toronto and then arrive in Calgary, which is in south central Alberta.
[the dribble is over]
I am prattling on.
How are you feeling today?
Oh, and I just guessed that your computer's name is a Welsh name. What does Myrddin mean? Is it literal like my last name, which means to literally "live by a Hill"? When I was living in the mountains, I thought that my name was truly GREAT -- -- I still do. I think the name Myrddin looks fabulously pretty, but you could laugh at me for that.
Please keep writing (ah hmmm, typing) to me. I am continually pleased to make your aquaintance.
