OBJECT OF THE GAME:
Ya got somebody who throws a rock, and the others on the same team try to do something about it to win. Then you watch others try to do much the same thing (at least that's what it appears like to the television audience).
The object of the game is to see who gets to buy the first round (the winner - unusually good sports!), then the second round (also good sports), then the consequent rounds (anybody, in order of wealth, thirst and, of course, good sports).
By thowing rocks at a house, it is determined that the team with the most rocks closest to the button wins the "end" of which a game can consist of ten. Often after ten the score is even and an "extra end" is necessary. It is called "extra" because they will have to consume an extra round to commemorate the close game.
I almost forgot. This is the sport that always gets pre-empted by golf, so if you like golf (yeah, right!) curling is a great thing to do while not waiting for the spring. In fact there is a Summer Spiel near me, albeit at a municipal club; therefore, NO SMOKING! The NERVE!
