Watership Down
Posted Apr 6, 2005
Altogether, not a bad day at all.
I grabbed at Richard Adam's Tales from Watership Down in the library. It was mine, my precious heh heh heh.
Ran around, messing up meetings, one got cancelled but I didn't pay attention to the announcements, go figure.
Chromatography lab this morning, though the amonium smelt, had fun fun fun separating the food dyes.
Reading Doris Lessing in Lit class. Missed some grammer when my lunch meeting dragged on. But the brainstorm was exciting.
Watched a documentary on Corporations... Didn't know before that they could be characterized as sociopaths .
Not much homework, worked on Mordred a bit whilst listening to the LOTR soundtrack.
Going to bed early.
Nighty, sweety.

I started reading my sister's Matilda book fulfill my bigger sibling duties of checking for content etc and to my ultimate surprise I loved the book.
It's a bit strange as I sat in health class, engrossed in an elementary school level plot.
...
Today it shined. Not much else to report.

Technically it is not my birthday until Sodit, but since Dad can't make that date we celebrated my twin and mine today. It was fun. We recieved several marathon phone calls from obscure and not-so-obscure relatives. My favourite present was that of a rock, present to me by my little sister Jen, of seven years old with a proud smile painted on her petite face. On closer examination, the rock turned out to be painted by her as well. If you squint slightly, those bold black lines are supposed to be in imitation of a potato. I don't know. Don't ask. Another titbit was that my Grandma called and spoke conspirically of my fortunes. She tole me that I was composed, thoughtful, and (is compatible with) will marry dirt. I was speechless, but I think I muttered something inaudible. Besides that, I don't believe in the horiscopes anyway... all that Fate dictates this and thats. As for others, it's the usual thing: money etc. I'm not that excited by my seventeenth birthday for some reason. Ugh.
It rained nonstop. There's serious talk of some flooding. On Sodit the rain's supposed to stop. It'd better.
Tomorrow the time will change, I don't know how. Yay, I shall have to get up early to help out with the church breakfast. Huzzah!

Contemp. Issues

Yesterday a high-school teenager shot his grandparents and ten students in Minnesoda [with three handguns]. It was the biggest school-shooting since what happened at Columbine in 1999. In a Native American reservation, yes, but think on this: is it a trend, and what should the Govt. do about this?
As one of my classmates claimed, quite accurately in sentiment if not as tactful "White People Sux"
End of story of "why" and the missing motive.
It's an obvious one.
We pushed them to assimilate. They don't have the skills/ability to make a viable living . We've tried to have them live in our standards, own land we say regardless of protests of beliefs. We kick 'em onto barren unusable lands and make them soveriegn. Good ol' us.
How do they support themselves without govt stipends/help? What is their share-crop, their lucrative honest economy? How can we protect a shining reputation as the highest standard of living when our neighbors thrall in poverty, way below the minimum line?
How should we extend the hand, the benevolent desire to aid without forcing our influence and culture in face of their struggles? Would much rather we not step in at all than strike the rich heritage of poor when most vulnerable.
It's rather depressing.
Had a test today in Soc. Chem test and lab tomorrow.
See ya later, Sweet
