That public promise will earn you updated badges on your Personal Space (once the last kink in code gets ironed out).

If we hear nothing from you by 31 August 2012, we will assume that you are no longer active, and you will be awarded a badge for retired volunteers.

I suppose it depends on what you mean by 'active'

I no longer spend my days patrolling the new users list and firing off welcomes and my 'expertise' as a guru only ever ran as deep as explaining to people how to use GuideML. When I was running the Thingites I was a more active participant in the community. Now I'm no longer a student but work full time I have found I spend less time on h2g2 but still dip in and am an active member still and - if asked to help out I would do so, and if I see someone who needs helps I'll do what I can.

I take a lot of pride in being an ACE, Guru and Post Reporter - I'd feel quite a loss if I had those badges removed.

I kind of feel a bit like an emeritus professor, tenured, over the hill but a'en't ded yet! as Granny Weatherwax would say.

The artist are working on Emeritus badges, so if you're not an active volunteer, you won't be without badge.

But now that times are changing, we really would like current volunteers to commit to a few hours per week (see Code of Conduct), and to know who are active and who are not.

Have a think about it, and check out the document, and get in touch with the volunteer teams and see what the ask of you in each case.
