It's begun again...
Posted Aug 29, 2000
School, that is. Year two, semester three of community college. Right at this moment I should be writing a short essay, and an even shorter speech. However, this is so much easier.
No math course this semester. All my classes are the kind where I will have to write big long essays on a regular basis. COM 101, COM 125, and ENG 102. And a one credit info literacy course, where I'm going to learn how to surf the net...(te he)
Well, thats all folks...

Provencetown, Cape Cod, Mass., USA
Posted Jul 12, 2000
Where I've been for the past several days.
It was great. Got sunburned, ate fresh seafood, swam in the ocean, found a horseshoe crab (put him back in the ocean), went on a whale watch, and the list goes on.
It took six hours to drive from my home to Cape Cod. I left at around 8pm, and arrived at about two am. I went with my dad, and a friend. We stayed at a place called the Provencetown Inn, which was right on the beach. From the door of my room, I could see across the bay to Race point, which is where the Pilgrams landed before they went to Plymoth. (or so I was repetedly told by various guidebooks and other tourest oriented propaganda) I was about 800 feet away from the start of the national beach too.
It took about 15 minutes to walk from the inn to town, and that was great too. (they don't like cars there. they keep all the roads narrow, and all the parking lots cost like $2.00 an hour. Eeek!)
In town there are really a lot of stores and resturaunts. Very touresty. Almost everything is overpriced, with the exception of one shop called Marine Specialties. This place is like 150 years old, and sells everything from gasmasks to mummified fish to discount clothing.
The food was really, reallt good. In four days, we did dinner at four different resturants, and they all were great. A place called The Lobster Pot had some really excellent seafood. (expensive though)
The beach was lovely too. There was a lot of wildlife, including a very relaxed duck. (we found him sitting on the beach and brought him back to the room. we then tried to feed him potato chips, but he wasn't having any, so we put him back out on the beach and he waddled away.) There were also lots of crabs scuttling around after dark, and one starfish. (which i'm pretty sure was dead, but how can you tell?) I got very sunburned.
The best part was the Whale Watch. We went out on a boat to where the fishing fleet had spotted whales, and saw several humpbacks and one of some other species. One of the humpback calves went under our boat and came up right next to me. It was ten feet away! I got a bunch of photos. I also discovered that I get seasick, but was able to fight it off. (i had just eaten a really good lunch, and i just kept saying to myself "i am not going to lose that lunch, it was too good") We also saw one of the Tall Ships, which are a fleet of sailing ships that are touring the east coast. They had stopped to look at the whales too.
I left home on friday, the 7th, and got back on tuesday the 11th, so I was there for four days. I wish I could have stayed for a month.

Wow, accelerated summer math courses certianly do suck...
Posted Jun 18, 2000
I kind of knew that taking a class in the summer while working full time would be a pain, but this is insane. The word accelerated didn't really make an impact until I experianced it firsthand.
The homework load is really scary. We cover about half a chapter per class. Each chapter is subdivided into sections, and each section has a has its own group of practice problems. 100 of them. We only get assigned the odd ones, but if we cover four sections in one class, that's still 200 problems due by next class. And they all require multi-step procedures and and checking. Uggh.
I almost feel like I've stopped existing. There is no me, just this person at work, at class, studying, and sleeping. It's very strange. I think if it kept up for too long, I'd lose my mind for real. Only good thing about it is it will end quickly. I just have to survive till next month, and pass the final exam.
