I've just got to say, I must have gone past that innocuous little grey button on the way to check up on your page sooooo many times...and I just wanted to say that it works. smiley - smiley

(I'm currently trapped behind a keyboard at 12.44am finishing an essay due in for Friday.)
So ego now fully inflated again. I'm gonna go back and write the best gosh-darn' paper on supererogatory actions my department has ever seen.

Not, as you might think, a revoloution in farming methods, but a description of actions 'of moral significance' but that can be described as neither right nor wrong.

Confused? smiley - erm

A soldier who sacrifices his own life to protect his squad by jumping on a live hand-grenade has acting heroicly but would you want to describe the soldiers who didn't jump as WRONG for not doing so? Equally, if you could imagine having paused time in the crucial seconds before anyone did anything, could a General have walked up and ordered the soldier to sacrifice himself and considered that the RIGHT thing to have done? Whilst the sacrificing soldiere's actions are undoubtably courageous, fantasticly so in fact, RIGHT and WRONG as descripters of behaviour do not emit of degrees - like 'good' or 'bad' - his action was clearly of moral significance but we are reluctant to decribe it in either of these unattractive terms. Actions such as this hypothetical example, that fall outside of the strict moral sphere, are supererogatory.

So what did you do today? And more importantly, which way did you vote? (you wouldn't believe the news coverage we've had over here of that, 24hr news channels broadcasting the latest developments state by state - I imagine it's been worse for you.)

Resuming the 'hey-guess-what-I-did-when-was-a-student' theme. Last night. We shaved a guy's head.

I don't just mean a haircut that verged on the severe. But shaving foam and bic razors, shaved. Smooth as a babies bum that's just come back from the French-polishers.

Actually , it was the same guy, who you may recall, had the death-threat posted under his door. I think the corridor may have something against him. The problem now is that he looks like Dr Evil and everynone just creases up every time he walks in the room.

*I like Uni* It's warped. But I'm a good boy. smiley - angel
