Bad News::..Back to the drawing board....GT just called me....He was at Wilf's yesterday and found out they do not open ' til 5PM on Sat... I am meeting him in a couple of hours to walk around the area and see what else we can find.....I'm sure we will find many small coffee houses, and great SMALL dining spots....But we do need a little bit of space......[Wilf's ,he says, also has a separate dinning area]...........................
******** I imagine we would want people to be able to gather by 4PM. ?????...??......?

Yeah, 4 sounds like a good idea...
Is the Culinary Arts Institute (or a name something like that...) anywhere near where we're going to be? I've been there before, and I know they have at least 1 private room...
Hi gingersnapper!
Gingersnapper+Keeper of the Cookie Jar and Stuff and Nonsense Posted Feb 20, 2005
I tried to call them to see what their hours are. but no answer.....It is not close and many blocks of city trafic & lights to go through.......GT what do you think??? It is much closer to the college & maybe he has been there........But....
**** ...The GOOD NEWS is I think the Eco Trust Building.. will be great....Nothing formal....A place to hang out....table & chairs every where.. inside & out.....Hot Lips pizza & what use to be a bar across the hall is now a great coffee place...".World Cup coffee & tea".....with some great comfortabe overstuffed chairs, benches, make yourself 'ta home......I think we will have more fun getting acquainted if things are more fluid and free spirited, Not formal...... In the amount of time you have ,a sit down dinner does take some time.....and consider if people might be arriving at different time, *****...from this Building the bus depot is a straight shot about 5 blocks....little traffic....The litttle park is the block catty corner....No swings...Just a place to walk & sit.. To me..It has a look of something you might find in Spain..It is very plain & simple....and golden sand look...neat & calm........***
**** At 6 0'clock the "walk" to the bus depot=...you may rather I drove you...It would be too long a walk for Faith..unless you have a stroller...If the weather is nice [hope, hope] today was beautiful & CT & I had a lot of fun walking around[well, I sure did]...But we can make that decision at the last 1/2 hour.....Or the whole gang of us [if weather is nice] walk you to the bus depot and then the rest of us could then go over to Wilf's.....Or we could all leave the Building at 4:45 and all walk over to Wilf's .... Lots of possibilities....
Is your head Spinning..???
**** Oh!, also... we can stash all your stuff, crib, etc.. at the bus depot for $2.00..
**GT....But can she just leave it all in the van til bus departure time....You have done a lot of traveling, so your input will be better as to what will work out best there......that's for sure.......
The address is 721 N.W. 9th...GT will give good directions...

Good Early Sunday Morning Amy:..Is it important to you that we get together for a "sit down " dinner.....I want you to be happy with the plans and not be disappointed, because then this event would not be fun for you......Please let me know, my feelings will not be hurt....I will not take anything you say "personally"
So feel free to speak frankly....But we are limited by time....Ah, yes precious time...It flys so..[or am I showing my age....??].......And what is comfortable & fun for Faith.......I hope we will be able to plan more of these meets....and of course we can use this one as a "learning curve"......So please let me know how you feel. Because I do not want to feel that "I am not doing the right thing"....I felt that GT liked the Eco Building, but maybe because I was so enthused, he didn't want to put a damper on my enthusiasm.........Remember I have 2 adult kids am I am used to hearing.".OH! Mom....."....Put what ever expression you want on that..........By for now,.........time for morning ...

Ginger, hi.
My reply is pretty much over at the Soggy Towel page in the thread called 'I wanna go!': F2016526?thread=587876
I genuinely liked the Eco-Trust Building, by the way. I'm also still open to whatever seems like it'll make everyone happy and comfortable, whatever that turns out to be.

Oo, you've been busy
Didn't answer earlier because I wasn't home all day! Church at 10, baby shower for James (the teeny baby in the last 2 photos of the album) at 2, Tom was running the sound booth for the evening service so we needed to be back at the church by 5 (service at 6)--we came home, ate, and crashed by 10! (Usually I go to bed around 1)
Pizza's *always* good! I'll just be sure that Faith's wearing short sleeves Plus, with pizza, we could just order lots, and people could grab a slice if they come later, and then leftovers could be split up (breakfast for those crashing at GT's)
There's no right or wrong way to do a meet, I think... Heck, the usual meets over in teh UK (and elsewhere) generally consist of going to a pub and staying there until closing time. And some are just hanging out at someone's house. As long as folks have a good time, that's what matters!

Amy:..In your Soggt Towell Entey::..Under Possibililies:..It can be confussing....After no big trees.....insert at Saturday Market.is near the waterfront harbor walk.....Because one may not pick up on the *note below'...or later our memory can play tricks on us as to what we remember that we read.....
From the bus depot if one walked about a mile toward the river to the Steel Bridge you have access to this walkway....It was completed about 2 years ago to make it possible to do a 3 mile loop...water front downtown , go across the Hawthorne bridge, beautiful promenade, along the east bank, back to the Steel Bridge....with a seperate walkway along the bridge....You do not have to walk on the bridge itself to get across.....fun...and around & around you go.....or back & forth...whatever.........They are planning to put a resrauant near it on the east side....then that will be great.....Last summer a small wooden boat club went in with facilities & dock...
**** About plans for the 12TH, can we discuss that on the 5TH???....While you are in Salem, we have phones...or libraries have computers for people....or maybe you could scout out a cafe with a computer to keep up on the buss a bit.....OR we will meet you at bus depot at 1 0'clock...and it will all be a big surprise for you..... ... ... ... .. .. .

PSS..Amy:....Back again to Soggy Towel Entry::..My first report about the building....There is no Bar....That space is now World Cup coffee & tea....Which is great...Because people can go later to a bar ,if they want....
The link to the Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center is great...So glad you know about stuff.....And the picture of the building , gives people an idea what they are looking for......And a link to a map , yet..!!
Where you quote me about "the rustic building.....can you make it clear that we are talking about the same place.......Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center..AKA...Eco Trust Building....
**** Also, I never get tired of Pizza..But there are other menu offerings there....I will check it out & report back......I just called the Coffee shop...No soup....They may have sandwiches, not guaranteed, but pastries, & sweet breads,ie..Banana Bread.. Orange nut.......And off street parking, smack dab in front of the building........I aso saw several people hunched over their lap tops ....

I googled for eco-trust "portland, or" and that's what I came up with, so I'm pretty sure we're talking the same building
