Gingersnapper+Keeper of the Cookie Jar and Stuff and Nonsense

It has been a busy day....But you have been VERY busy....Lots to say, but time for bed........You sure have done a good job.....On Saturday the 12 , you would not have hardly an hour free time...But within a few blocks of the bus depot is a nice great old rustic building....with a nice foyer..in which your toddler could toddle around.....to gather...has a pizza spot, and in the building is also a bar....The place is not so big that anyone would get lost in it...People could gather for the afternoon...You could make your appearence at 2 and we would have you on your way by 3 for the airport.....You have to figure the time it takes to put all your stuff in & out of the car....You need a full 1/2 hour or more time from depot to airport....also near the depot , I just remembered there is a neat little park..if it is a nice day, So if it turns out that we have no other plans the little park would be a good place for your toddler to toddle....a chance to let off a little steam....It is very safe there as this is a very high class place called the Pearl District...the park is bran new, no big tree or bushes...
************************ On Sat.the 5th, The childrens museum would take time to get to...and it is a place that a child can really get absorbed in at the play areas....It takes some time....
******************** Maybe I am getting old, but I can not see Saturday Market as a place to meet other people...it is all out doors, and hectic with lots of stuff....and little booths everywhere...Now, if there is no one else to meet ,it is not too far from the bus depot and we could check it out....drive by and see if we are lucky to find a place to park....because parking is a big problem there...also if the weather is nice we are right at the water front and could have a lovely walk along the seawall.. It is safe...no one would fall in The wall is higher than my waist....[am I showing my age..??] and if there is time there is a wonderfull water foutain..there...it changes shape and sounds so nice....I am thinking of things that would be calming to your child....because children soon become irritable with coping with too much changes..and too much stimutlaing thing going on and all about....and new things...
********** I do not have room to put anyone up...I am soory it would be lots of fun....
If several turn up it would be fun for them to get to gether somewhere and spend the weekend in town....
GT Baa[forgot your name] what do you think of all this..?? I think you gave an e-mail address somewhere,
so maybe you should have my phone #...to sound out ideas.... Please excuse mistype..etc. I am in a hurry, it is getting cold in here , the fire has gone out & the furnace off.. Nite now...
smiley - run

Gingersnapper, hi. smiley - smiley

You're much better at this than I am! smiley - bigeyes I hereby defer to Gingersnapper's judgement regarding good activities for a toddler. It sounds like we might want to be centered near Union Staton (that's the bus depot). Getting there from the airport is just a matter of taking the Max as far as 5th/6th Ave, and then any bus north along 6th. If someone, or several someones, meet Amy and Faith at the airport, then that trip could be very easy. Once at the depot, you could check bags and be free to move around. That's for the 5th.

On the 12th, we could meet Amy and Faith arriving at the depot, do whatever activities, and then make sure they get a good push, or escort, or carpool, towards the airport in time.

It sounds as if CM2 might involve budgeting more time than we're currently planning for? It is off towards west Portland, and not quite trivial to get to and from.

Oh, and I can put people up overnight, especially if they're comfortable in a sleeping bag on someone's couch or floor.

Also, Gingersnapper, email me anytime: [email protected]. You can call me "Tony" if that's easier to remember than "GTBacchus".

Hi, Sunday afternoon....Had a very nice visit with GT....He joined me for my dinner hour at the cafeteria at the Hospital where I work...Friday nite....I am on call & just work a couple times a month when someone wants a day off....which amounts to more on holidays, of course......He is real neat...cheerful...And GT this is not for you....just between Amy & me....[he is kinda cute]...........
..... We will both meet the plane....while you & GT put stuff in his van I will keep Faith entertained by giving her attention and [cookies??] so she is not feeling neglected.......A car seat will not fit in the van....do you need to put a car seat in my WW golf..for Faith....and how long does that take.....?????
*******GT will check out meeting places near the bus depot....There is a great big comfortable restaurant a block away that GT rememmbered at the train depot called Wilfs, at Union Station....That I think every one would be very comfortable gathering at....If they haven't remolded it since the last time I was there, and spoiled a good thing....I think it would be nice if first we stop at that little park near by and let Faith streatch her legs and have a little time that's "all hers"...But that is your
call because you know how & what she needs...or, no, maybe a run in the park just before getting on the bus and then she is more likly to fall asleep on the bus....we will" play that by ear".. or" fly by the seat of our pants" as they say.....But also if we meet at wilf's it is a short pleasant walk to the Bus depot a block away with some rose bushes along the way.....I'll walk with you....
*****Wilf's----NW 6 & Irving.... .........by 4 now..... smiley - run ... ..

I was going to ask how the meeting wentsmiley - smiley Can't really see why the car seat wouldn't fit in the van, unless there's no seat belts... Oh, wait, maybe the seat belts are anchored in front of the crease or something... Yes, Faith needs to ride in her car seat, but it only takes a couple minutes (if that)to put it in. A snack for her while we load up the bags would be great--hopefully she will have napped on the plane (she usually goes down at 12:30, unless we're somewhere 'interesting', and I'm guessing that an airport will qualifysmiley - winkeye Airplane will probably be equivalant in her mind to riding on the city bus here, and she zonks out just fine when we're running errands (though a bit later than usual) Anyway, she usually eats right when she gets up, though she's fairly flexible. And even if not, she's always willing to eat.

Since so far there's about a half dozen of us signed up for the meet, we shouldn't panic the restaurant staff when we come in--you should have seen the faces of the staff at the restaurant we had breakfast at in Lancaster, PA when 13 of us walked insmiley - laugh

Probably be goos to let Faith run around a park or something--and if there's baby swings there, even bettersmiley - ok

Of course, if your car's new enough to have LATCH (I *think* everything newer than 2002 has it) I'll need to reroute the straps on the seat, because our car doesn't have LATCH, so that bit could take a few minutes. But the actual putting-seat-in-vehicle bit should be even fastersmiley - ok *reminds self to round up seat manual*

Since Wilf's is a big restaurant and train depot on one side and bus depot on other side, I would imagine that they are fixable, I would keep that in mind and not have a gathering at a rather formal place...But we can futher check that out with them and see if they are OK with our plans....I will find out if they require reservation.... because it is a nice place...Not a dennys or Sharis............
I understood GT to say that there are no back seats in the van....When my son had a van he took out the seats because it is so much easier to load stuff in to it that way....
My WW Golf is not that new, but it is in very good condition, and had all its check ups every year because I do not want to have to buy a new one any sooner than necessary....I will call my dealership and see what they say.... And go and check out the park....It is just the size of a city block and I just walked on one side of it and was not paying any attention for swings..[I love to swing,still.] But I did notice lots of children, at a water play area...And young adults playing an interesting ball game....I asked the name, but can not remember it now....They roll a small ball like a croquet ball, past other players balls, The game is from France, Spain or I don't think it was Italy...Take your pick.....and if there are no swings...One should complain to the management...Ha,Ha, [the city]...Well, we have a bran new mayor.........
By for now , we will keep in touch..................
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~At the airport, I will hold up a sign that says.....H2G2....Fun.................
smiley - doh Yeah, that makes sense... Though I was *sorta* right--no seats means no seatbeltssmiley - laugh Though since there's no back seats, Faith and I couldn't've ridden with GT anyway, even if Tom hadn't been uncomfortable with the idea! Anyway, if you've still got the owner's manual, it should say if you've got LATCH or notsmiley - smiley
The game's probably bocci ball. Don't know much about it, but I do know that you roll the ball down a lane type thing. Only reason I know that much is that there's a bocci ball court at the park just 2 corners away from my house.
Whether Wilf's requires a reservation or not, it might be a good idea to make one anyway, if we have firm numbers in time. Though I suppose it wouldn't hurt to plan for a couple extra people, just to be safe... And if they have a small banquet room (and it doesn't cost any extra or anything) that might not be a bad idea--then we could be as noisy as we want and, if it takes a long time for the food to arrive (being a nice place and all) Faith could run around and play while we wait.
I made no progress on" checking things" out..today was busy.....But it will all come out in the wash....or something.....it was very cold here today.....and the evening news was of cars hiting ice, and sliding....off the road or into each other....and being told once again to "slow down"...in town not bad, but in the outlying hills. ...
******************Yes, Bocci sounds like it..................looked like a nice gentlemanly like game......
This family is not a football fan, nor even basketball....Not the Blazers..thats for sure..!!!!!
I'll get my car owners manual out again....and give it a better look through...I know right where it is.....
Hi,Hi, I called my car dealership..No latch....And she said to check out if my seat belt has an automatic stop....I do not think so....So on your car seat is a [what did she call it ,now?] a stop latch clip?, that you will have to use....All car seats come with one,she said....unless you have taken it off.....??.......
Does this make sense to you, or do I need to get more facts..??.........She said for me to drive by and she would take a look at my car if I wanted to.......My seat belt is a combination all in one....It comes from the top of the window across the shoulder & over the lap.....visualize a great big V sideways..<......
***** I will go down Saturday afternoon and check out the park....Take a walk through...and then I will go over to Wilf's and talk to them....and take a look at their menu.....
******I was over at Pheloxi's space...He/she? has made some changes....and came across an entry about their Dutch mini Meet ..May 2002..........It says you were the first to arrive.....Have you told He/she about our mini meet????....Or , well, maybe wait till it is over to talk about it.........I guess..There were more picture to click on, but they did not come up for me..I'll try again...It is now time for >smiley - choc& smiley - coffee ....
