Are all the clocks in the US changing over this weekend or does each time zone do as it pleases?

Florida Sailor All is well with the world

I think it is universal these days, but there used to be some states that refused to switch to daylight time.

In any event it would not be by time zone, but by the laws of each state. One of the interesting places to work is the Hoover Dam, near Las Vegas Nevada, one end of the site is in Pacific time, the other is in another state and in Mountain time.

My Grandfather was a Rail Road Engineer (Rail Way Driver) and they always ran on standard time (you can not push a train an hour ahead along the track, no matter what the clocks say) I remember my mother used to tell us that every summer she would ask him what time it was, and he would always ask 'Your time, or my time?'

I was watching for the changeover on the electronic time on my cell.

In past years it was at midnight.

This year, it was sometime after 2:00am.

I suppose the change may have been for the convenience of police and other emergency services organizations.

I'd fall asleep sitting staring at a tiny screen for nearly 2 hours.

DST is observed in all US States with the exceptions of most of Arizona (the Navajo Nation observes DST), Hawaii and the overseas territories of American Samoa, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the United States Virgin Islands.

I believe all of the EU nations change at 2am on the last Sunday of March and back again the last Sunday of October. But I have to confess I haven't checked. The UK may deviate from this. They always seem to do if they can find a way out of it smiley - winkeye

Daylight Savings Times is but one of many illusions. Lunch time, however, is too important to be sacrificed on the altar of illusion.

In the news yesterday, Texas legislators are considering opting out of DST. As much as I disagree with most of what those conservative eejits do, I hope this passes. I doubt it will, but I hope it does.

I'm not awfully fond of DST, but it's not irritating enough to join an organization aiming for its repeal. I'd prefer a point halfway between regular time and DST, which would be constant throughout the year.

No... That would drive my OCD off as bad as seeing one mismatched tile on a floor.

Noon, by definition, should be midday. DST offsets noon one hour early. 12:00pm offset by even 30 minutes would still not be "Noon".

Now if you want to set business and school hours 30 minutes or an hour earlier, fine.
