I don't think rum and ropes are in any way connected. I used to have rum in my kitchen cupboard, and a rope in my office at work. Both instances were coincidences.

Why would you have ropes in your office? Did you show them to young librarians? smiley - bigeyes

It was a second-floor office where I cataloged books. At the time, there was nbo fire escape, so I tied one end of the rope to the radiator. In casew of fire, I could open the window and climb down to the ground.

I am surrounded by empty rum barrels at work - enough to make a pirate cry.

I think that is awful, even if you are fit. Hit the fire alarm and wait for trouble when the fire dept finds the library to be illegal. smiley - roflsmiley - sigh

An accessible window in a room on the second floor counts as a fire escape even if there's nothing to climb, because it can still be reached by a fire truck ladder. smiley - geek

I never thought of that, Malabarista. Good point!

They put in a fire escape eventually, but I kept the rope. Eventually, I left that job for one on the main floor of the same building.
