I would say that normally it isn't, but at the times when I have been unhappiest, I've also been the most creative as far as writing things are concerned. So it does have positive sides, depending on how we deal with it.

It's easier to compose when you're sad...smiley - smiley Well, I think it is...smiley - smiley When you're very happy...everything just ends up in a really happy major key...and I don't like that...smiley - winkeye

Well, if you're sad you're more likely to pause and sit down and express how you feel. If you're happy, you carry on enjoying being happy. You don't want to stop doing what you're doing and write something as much as you would if you were sad.
Writing cheers you up, or so I find, I think. It's more complicated than that.

Yes, I know what you mean...

When I'm happy, I don't really want to sit down in front of the piano...but when I'm sad I do...smiley - smiley

That's true - except that I always play my bugle when I'm happy - but it is a loud instrument, so perhaps that affects it.
You can't put that much emotion into a bugle...
Actually, you can... Hmm, I'm not sure...

Well...perhaps it's just that the louder you play...the happier you are... Or in my case...the louder I play...the sadder I am...smiley - smiley

Or perhaps it has nothing at all to do with being happy...smiley - smiley

I don't know... The volume in itself may not have anything, but what you play at that volume does. It's just like you may play a happy peice or sad peice on your CD player, the volume doesn't reflect your mood, what you're listening too does.

...Well...I know for certain that when I'm angry I play louder...smiley - smiley

I think that's natural, and so just reflects the mood we're in.

I wonder if we write differently depending on our mood? If we had to write an essay, and we wrote it when angry or when happy, would it change?

Perhaps it would...smiley - smiley

Or perhaps just the handwriting would change...
