Carry on, it's an interesting digression. I read the story of O a long time ago, before Sub/Dom stuff was even whispered about.

There must be so* many books out there, just like storey of O, whcih I've never read, and never come across, but which I should* have read years ago... (and not just books on the sub/dom thing, I mean just 'books')... there should be a list of them all somewehre
I perhaps have something of the wrong perspective for reading O, though, due to my err. experiences as it were but the 'version' of 'it' in the book, is ... well.. a 'version' of it, in a certain setting, time, location, 'flavour of it', even, perhaps... and it may be, that I've got too strong oa sense of 'sub/dom' from err elsewhere, that I'm impossing over what it is, that is happening in the book
hmmm... There's a lot more spontaioniously induced bounts of hysterical giggling and laughter, in 'RL BDSM/Sub/Dom'.... often... Well.. sometimes... ya know... funny stuff can happen I really oughta just go carry on reading it... the itnernets is too distracting ot reading

:Story of O" apparently came out in 1954.Not many books are still being widely read 59 years after they first come out. That's about the time "Lolita" came out, though. Do the two books have similarities?

Surely it isn't that unusual? I can think of quite a few books from the '50s or earlier that are still very widely read (and don't even have much of a sex angle...)

Okay, let me try again: why this particular book?

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted Nov 11, 2013
I don't think I've ever read Lolita! I have so* many books to catch up on... as you say, there are an aweful lot of years, even just* going back fifty odd years, in which one should have a reasonable enough selection of having been read which... clearly I don't
\Was it written in French origionally? I oughta look that up... sadly my French wouldn't be good enough, if it were, to read it in the origional
Interesting.....
I'm getting the idea, that there is a serious unbalance, with ... (need the right word....), err, sinsarity of the two main protagnistis love for each other... hmm... or perhaps I mean 'balance' of it... O is clearly really utterly totally seriously in love with err, R, but... he 'seems' to be with her... perhaps, actually he really* is, but its coming across... sort of differnt...
To my mind, O's 'reasons' for submitting to her lover, are 'right', she's, sort of, I guess 'doing it for the right reasons', out of her love for him. But, I'm getting the notion, that his reasons, for wanting her to submit, to he, and his desires, are kinda messed up... maybe partially from love, but I think more from greed...
Having said which, I find it a lot esier to sympthasise and understand O's reasons, and 'desires' in some way, than I do for his reasoning behind it...
Its not a balanced enough 'relationship', for my liking... which, I know may sound strange; as 'surely there is always a total unbalance in a sub/dom relationship'? to which, I'd answer, absolutely not; it is either a total balance, power-wise, or, skewed, to the opposite direciton, to that it ultimately appears; As in, it is the 'sub', who* submits, not the 'Dom', who 'Dominates', meaning the power to submit, is with the sub', and in some ways that is a greater power, or balance of the power, than the 'Doms' mere* power to 'Dominate', a willing 'sub'...
O is getting a lot of the 'feelings' that I'd expect.... of 'pleasure' from her willing submition, and her acceptance of it, and all that it now means about her, but, I think she's going to end up very unhappy awww! no fair! I wanna take her away from him, before its too late!
On a slightly differnt note... some of these rooms, and appartments, and places... they sound so gorgeous.... I do hope Paris is still utterly like it is, described in this book, and not just full of modern built horrible new stuff

I read about 100 books a year, yet I never seem to even get close to the ones that people mention as important ones. After I saw the film "Vity of Ember," I mentioned it to my brother, who turned out to have read the book. When I saw "Howl's Moving Castle," I mentioned it to a co-worker who said that the book it was based was her favorite book at one time. I had never heard of either book before I saw the movies they were based on.
It's hard to make sense of a world in which so much is going on. This afternoon I was looking at Christmas CDs, and noticed an original cast one of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Apparently someone mounted a full Broadway production, including the great songs from the 30-minute animated TV special from the 1960s, plus a lot of new songs to fill it out. I've worked hard recently to identify recent musicals, but totally failed to notice this one.
Am I doing something wrong, or is the world getting to be too much?

[In the second line, change "Vity" to "City."]

On a daily basis I can't even keep up with all* the local news, we can now find on the net... let alone the rest* of the national news, or even international news.... So one only ever gets to read bits* of it all... given that there is so* much film, TV, books, etc., published every year, in just one or two countrys, then consider the worldwide output, of, say, just* the last fifty years! there just isn't the time!
I don't read nearly enough, but I do try* a short paperback, which may have taken me an hour or two to read, in print, ends up being 7, 8, or more hours, on audio, so it just takes longer I guess... I should still be geting through more than one a week, though rarely do

I'm grateful for the movie industry, which turns so many books into films. Two hours of watching, and I have the gist of the story.
The Grinch musical came to Broadway in 2006, outselling "Wicked" while it was there. Then it came back in 2007. Christmas-themed musicals are hot at the end of the year, but they don't have staying power during the Spring and Summer.
I used to read thousands of book reviews as part of my job, so I sort of knew what was being touted as important. I don't do that any more, so I miss more than I used to.
This year I've been reading Terry Pratchett's Discworld books in the order in which they came out. There are 39 books in all, and I'm halfway through number 38. Then I can move on to other series....

I remember enjoying a book called "The Wonderful O" as a child, and there wasn't any sex in it at all, although there was a pirate.

I've read various of the disk world books... No idea how many, and certianly not in any much of an order! I may have to copy you one day, and do the same... Its been years, since I read things like err... what was it called... 'the colour of magic'? and suchlike, so I could probably happily revisit those I have read, once more
I really wanted to go see Wicked, when it was on in London, ages ago now... but never managed to do it ; I rarely if ever go to musicals, or theater etc and I can't remember the last time I actually watched a film/moovie... I got so fed up with TV, I thought rather than moan about it, I'd just not have one which is more or less fine... Dont' really feel like I'm missing much, when I see the various TV things people talk about on Twitter hmmm.... actually, were it not for h2g2, and twitter, etc, I'd probalby read a hell fo a lot more books

Well, if its still going on, at various places, it must be doing so somewhere.... well, London would be an obviously nearish place to me I guess, at some point... I must try remember to have a look out at some point... heck I could drag William along to it... I'm sure he'd..... be mystified as to why I wanna go to it

I have the original cast recording for "Wicked." I heard it recently, in fact. I hear that Sondheim's "Into the Woods" is being made into a movie, with Meryl Streep playing the witch -- a role that Bernadette Peters created in the stage version. I saw a video of the musical some years ago.

"The Wonderful O", by the way, was a story by James Thurber about a country where the tyrant ruler hated the letter "O", so he banned its use, leading t lts of funny language by the peple. I remember:
"Mist is always mist but what is mist isn't always mist".
