The End of Boredom
Lanzababy - Guide Editor Started conversation Jul 7, 2011
Just a few weeks ago I remember sitting in this exact same spot and moaning, just like a teenager, that I was 'bored, bored, bored.'
Then something happened and things suddenly stopped being boring and became really rather interesting
I was approached to join the team of Interim Guide Editors, or as they are now to be known 'H2G2 Future Guide Editorial Team' U14916653
The other members are Gnomon, Dmitri and Jordan. So I am in exhalted company.
Of course anything that we may plan is just that at the moment - a plan. Until the final legal aspects of moving away from the BBC are tied up, then we carry on with business as usual. Mind you there are some pretty comprehensive plans that had been discussed with the wider community in Magrathea.
Pastey and the amazing team of technical guys are sorting out a brand new home for us all, and I have to say their enthusiasm and dedication to enabling us to have the h2g2 we have always dreamed about is just incredible.
Well, the first thing we want to do is to revive the poor state that Peer Review has sunk into. We need you to write
and we need you to review. You don't have to be a Scout to do this, just someone with a little time to comment on someone's Entry. Even - 'hey I liked this piece, I agree with what you've written and how you've said it' is better than no-one even seeming to notice that something has been submitted.
As for the writing part of it - we are trying an initiative to see who will be the author of the very first Entry to be published on the Front Page of noohootoo.
Entry requirements are simple - just submit your piece to Peer Review in the normal way. ( We need to have them in the pipe-line before handover)

Congratulations, a well deserved honour - and what an impressive group of colleagues you've got there
For various reasons I am not able to contribute at the moment, but I may be in a couple of years, maybe even less. We'll see

If you're in charge of the scouts, does this mean you have to wear a woggle?

I did used to have one of those really loud whistles, with a pea, to pursuade loud crowds of children that it was the End of Playtime. Was I ever so glad to have to stop using it. But I've never owned a woggle.
It sounds like you're designing a whole new outfit for the Guide Editors - I liked the Baden Powell hats - Are we allowed a campfire and mugs of cocoa?

Be glad you had a whistle, Lanza. According to news from Uganda they just found out that what a village school used as an innocent bell was in fact an active bomb that could have wiped out said school if the teacher had banged just a bit harder with the stones they used

Indeed I just had a peek Shagbark. It reminded me that the vegetable soup needs cooking for supper. Actually I thought it was a pretty good rescue!
I'll comment later.

yes, it was good soup I had it with toasted cheese sandwiches - this Entry by broelan reminded me to make some.

I think the cheese sandwiches were the best bit actually - all lovely gouda and German bread and dark green olive oil to fry them. In fact nearly as good as the double fried egg sandwich the magician made me yesterday for lunch.

Lanza, I think you are an asset to the Team
Re the competition, so if someone puts an entry in PR next week does that mean it won't get published until after we move? Or is that the point, it may get pubished before, or on Day One, or later, and we just don't know?

At the rate they're publishing at the moment, there's enough in the system to keep the Front Page stocked with entries for the next 12 weeks, using only entries that have already been picked.
We don't have an official date for the changeover yet, but I certainly hope it is less than 12 weeks away. So that would mean that nothing submitted or in Peer Review now will be published until the new hootoo is under way.
That's not an official line, just an educated estimate based on my knowledge of the publishing process.
