Thank you for asking. The play was excellent, but the location was unbelievable. The Gainsborough Studios was where Hitchcock and many other directors such as Will Hay filmed during the 1930's and 40's. Before it is converted into luxury flats, it will stage 2 Shakespeare plays. I saw Richard the II. It was excellent, and although Ralph (Rafe)is the star, Linus Roach was superb. But the building!!!!
The stage and seating has been put up inside the largest part. I think a floor has been removed, at some point so the walls of this hall are very high, and one of them is the back of the set. It looks like it could be the wall of a castle. The stage is a raised floor with real turf laid on it, so it There is no stage curtain or wings. Actors appear from all over the stage, through doors, down steps or on levels up high. It even rains at one point.

I toured the Bankside Power Station just before they finally began to convert it to the Tate Modern, and the atmosphere of the building is very much the same. I was able to wander around inside the Gainsborough which was very bare, but still a wonderful experience.
Sorry to ramble on!

Sounds like a good day out you had going to see the play and meeting lots of people.

It rains at one point, boy did it rain at one point for us, just while walking to the pub as well!
