basically, due to the above, I have a small lung capacity and now age has "crept" upit turns out that right side of my heart isn't pulling it's weight as such and my lungs aren't getting shut of enough CO2 when asleep and that has/is the cause of my demise around xmas time and for the rest of my life. I now have to use a breathing machine thing at night to help my lungs (not on oxygen)

I am sorry to hear of your problems and pray for a recovery. You have my best wishes at all times. I have asthma and use inhalers a lot. But nothing as serious as you sound. Have a sit down and put your feet up. I suppose you won't be entering any marathons any day soon? Getting lucky to me means, entering a room and remembering what I went in there for.
