nowadays, they ought to put 12ft high barbed wire fencing round all schoolsto keep them in. Over here, if a "pupil" behaves badlythey usually send him/her home ? so a few "mates" will act up in their classes and meet up in town etc

all councils "used" to have truant officers, that would call at their homes etc and parents could get finedBut with all the cutbacks etc that seems to have gone by the book, we are most definitely going to have a few generations of thicko's again

Yeah. The US got the truant officers in the 1930s - AFTER they finally won the endless war to outlaw child labour.

The truant officers weren't against the kids, they were to keep the parents from forcing them to go to work instead of getting to go to school.

The kids don't realise what a gift that is, I guess.

as long as they have an xbox etc and a internet mobile/cellphone, that's the extent of knowledge they'll gain

It wasn't sun, it was heat, I think. It was just too hot.
