Hello 007
vodka and coke Posted Jul 25, 2000
Thanks Blubottle. The main reason I don't come on here much is that I never really have time.
By the way, I have now changed my intro so it is more interessting and less moody!! Oh and I like those smilies you have on your page, the smi one is great!!
Hello 007
Bluebottle Posted Jul 25, 2000
Hi 007 - it's good to say Hi on h2g2 too.
We have a lot of TV favourites in common, as you may have guessed. Blackadder, Simpsons, Star Trek & Monty Python are among my favourites. I also am a fan of Buddy Holly & Queen, but not 5ive.
I'm glad you enjoyed the smileys on my page - took a little while to do, but I think they were worth it.
So, can I be nosey and ask you some questions????
Hello 007
vodka and coke Posted Aug 3, 2000
Ask away! I am always asking people questions so I must seem really nosey! What do you want to know?
I can imagen those smilies must have taken ages. I agree with the 5ive thing, but yeah, we seem to have loads in common. Do you like Ella Fitzgerald? What about David Bowie? I think he is so cool. I was supposed to go to Glastoonberry this year but I didn't get round to it, I was gutted when I found out he was playing and I would have to miss it. I am going to Reading which should make up for it. I can't wait to see Eminem and Idlewild and Placebo and Beck and all the hundreds of other bands I love that are playing! Have you ever been to anything like that?
I won't be able to reply for about a week because I will be on holiday (on the I of W) but I will get onto the internet as soon as I can when I get back.
Speak to you then, bye!!
Love Kate
Hello 007
Bluebottle Posted Aug 3, 2000
Okay - now I'm under pressure to think of nosey questions! Help!
I'll start off by answering yours. I don't really know Ella Fitzgerald - my music knowledge isn't that advanced to more modern music. I like a lot of David Bowie though - gotta love him in Labyrinth . I've never been to any festivals though. The nearest was a Wurzels concert I went to as a child, but I doubt that that counts. I did see Craig Charles' comedy show - I was practically at the front. That was a great day. I've also met Spike Milligan. But concerts? No, sorry.
Aha - I now know your name is Kate I'm Matt BTW - I think I'll just ask general questions like who you are, where your from. You didn't really say much about that on your introduction.
about me
vodka and coke Posted Aug 17, 2000
Well now I know your name, Hi Matt!
I'm sorry it takes me ages to reply all the time but I don't have the internet at home so it all depends on when I can be bothered to walk about two miles to the 'local' library.
I know another Matt from Sandown but he isn't you because he is 18 and still lives there. I bet you have always wanted to know that useless piece of information haven't you?!
You asked me to tell you abour me. Well... I am 18 and I live in Newbury, Berkshire (do you know it? It isn't very far from Southampton) with my mum, two brothers, a cat and a dog. My dad lives in London and is a complete b*****d. I haven't spoken to him in almost two years now. My brother are 15 and 9 and my cat is Penny. The dog is my brothers and is called Mango.
I do A-levels in Human Biology, Physics and English Literature and I want to do Biology at university because I love it so much. But not before I have done a gap year in Canada, where I used to live when I was little and adored it so much I have been dying to go back ever since.
This is probubly the longest post I've done in ages! I don't know what else to talk about at the moment so tell me about you.
about me
Bluebottle Posted Aug 17, 2000
Hi again Kate - I still know your name
Don't worry about having to reply all the time - reply when you want to, I hope you feel you enjoy talking to me, and aren't forced into it. And no, I'm not that other Matt from Sandown - does this other Matt have a name, and where abouts did he live? I lived in St. John's Road.
Thanks for saying a little about yourself - funny how you told me your cats name but not your brothers . I have an older sister Rebekah, a half sister Rhiannon, and my mum and dad divorced and both remarried, and both live on the Island.
I haven't been to Newbury at all, but I've been to Reading several times. One of my best friends, Ben, lives there.
I did English Lit A-level too And History and Sociology... So, we've a little in common. What books do you have to do? I did Chaucer, Comus, Samson Agonistes, King Lear, Hamlet, Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre and A Doll's House. I remember it well.
Talk to you soon
<BB<
I can't think of a subject!
vodka and coke Posted Aug 21, 2000
Of course I enjoy talking to you, I just hope I'm not really boring!
My brother's names are Tom and Joe. You can tell I have my priorities right can't you?! I must have been in a day dream when I was typing, that's why I forgot. I tend to have a habit of day dreaming quite a bit.
So far in English lit. we have done The Scarlet Letter, Last Of The Mohicans, Blake, Othello and Beloved and next year we are doing The Tempest, The Dubliners and they didn't tell us the rest, we will find out when we get there!
My friend Claire does sociology, she hates it! Is it as bad as she says?!
I can't think of a subject!
Bluebottle Posted Aug 21, 2000
No - don't worry, I haven't found you the slightest bit boring so far.
And there's nothing wrong with day-dreaming - I do it all the time, I'm afraid. Especially when I'm walking somewhere - it's a great form of entertainment, and helps me come up with ideas to write. Yep, if I didn't say before, I'm one of those people who want to be an author.
As for sociology - I found it great fun. But then I had one of those rarest of rare things - a good teacher. I mean, he was great. Funny, able to keep your attention (I can hardly believe it myself, but it was true) and generally helpful. I can remember almost all of his lessons, but none of any other teachers...
I guess a lot depends on the teacher - you can never tell.
I can't think of a subject!
vodka and coke Posted Aug 31, 2000
Sorry it seems like I took ages to reply, I did a few days ago but it doesn't seem to have posted, sorry!! I can't remember what I wrote now so I will have to make up a load of new stuff...
I have been really busy today because my friend and I are planning a surprise birthday party for one of my other friends tonight so we have been shopping for alcohol and food all day. I don't know waht else to write about because my brain isa bit dead today! I'll speak to you when I next get the chance... Have fun!!
Love Kate
I can't think of a subject!
Bluebottle Posted Aug 31, 2000
Oh, don't worry if it takes a while to reply - I don't mind. I'm happy you write regardless.
I've not been doing that much either, but this weekend I am returning home to the Isle of Wight. I hope to see a few old friends and catch up on what's been happening.
I'll tell you about it when I return.
Can you do me a favour??!!
vodka and coke Posted Sep 5, 2000
Have fun on the island! Do you live anywhere near Beachfield Road because I know round there. Probubly not, but I thought I'd ask anyway! Make sure you have a go on the Homer game for me...
By the way, I don't suppose you could do a friend of mine a favour when your over there? You know the shop on the end of the pier? The one on the left hand side. Tell a guy that works there called Dave that he is a looser and a tosser and Claire wants nothing to do with him! Say that if he really liked her he would believe her and not John. He'll understand. You don't have to really, I was joking but it would be so funny (for Claire) if you did! Let me know what his face was like! I know you won't get this email until you get back from the island anyway but for next time...!!
Anyway, I only have five more minites so I have to go. I'll speak to you soon, love Kate.
Ps, you don't really have to do that, I was winding Claire up because she is sitting next to me!! But do it if you want...
Can you do me a favour??!!
Bluebottle Posted Sep 5, 2000
I live near the corner where there are the Fountain and Caulkheads pubs on opposite sides of the road, and the Avenue Road Church right in the middle of the road. That's on Avenue Road, which leads into the High Street which leads into Beachfield Road. So not _that_ far away.
But next time I'm on the Island, I'll play the Simpsons game, definately, and as for this Dave, I probably won't. Hope you understand - but as I don't really know Claire at all, it won't really help much...
And you're right - I'm back from the Island as I don't have a PC there. But I had a fun time.
Can you do me a favour??!!
vodka and coke Posted Sep 6, 2000
HI!!
Is it good to be back or not? You will be pleased (or gutted!) to know that now the new term has started I have access to a computer every day so I will be able to reply a lot sooner. I was only winding up Claire about the Dave thing by the way, you weren't really supposed to!
I am gutted to be back, it is so boring in this town, especialy in this sixth form. I have to be in a tutor group with two of the most annoying peaple in the world. I wanted to drop out but then I remembered that I couldn't do biology if I did.
I have a biology lesson now so I have to go but I will write again later,
Bye!!
Love Kate
Can you do me a favour??!!
Bluebottle Posted Sep 6, 2000
Hello!
Can I think of any reason why I'd be upset about you having more computer access? Nope - I can't sorry.
Although how long can we talk about Sandown? I don't know - I may well be forced to ask other questions about who You are as opposed to your views on Sandown. So you're doing biology? Are you in upper or lower sixth, and is it a school sixth form or a college?
Forgive me from being nosey!
Matt
no subject
vodka and coke Posted Sep 6, 2000
Be as nosey as you want and I was thinking the same thing about our subject matter!
It is a school sixth form and I am in the upper sixth so I don't have long to go. I have PS for the rest of the day now so I have nothing to do for a couple of hours. How often do you have to go in for lectures etc at university?
Can I ask if you took a gap year? I am planning to go to Canada (Vancouver) and I can't wait. I want to go now! I used to live in Montreal when I was 7 and I have always wanted to go back. Canada is the best place in the world. British Columbia is the nicest bit and I have never been there so it will be the best.
I am still trying to decide on which university to go to but I will probubly end up in Portsmouth. There are places I would prefere but my grades don't give me the luxury of choosing. I have to take what I am offered!
I'll shut up about education, it is too stressfull! If you were wondering (ehich I doubt you were) why I changed my name it is because I was bored of 007 and I thought that was a bit sad. This one is even sadder but it is more relevant to the state I was in last week. A couple of friends and I threw another friend a surprise birthday party and I wasn't a very good host because I ended up so plastered I only just made it to my bed before I collapsed in a drunken heap and slept 'till God knows what hour of the next day. Vodka and apple is a killer because it tastes so nice and you don't even know you are drunk until it hits you in a huge wave and you are slaughtered. There is no tipsy. There a boring story you didn't want to know!
Hav eyou seen any good films lately?! You can tell I am running out of things to say now! Oh, you can help me with a problem. Do I have my huge birthday party as a fancy dress or not?! If I do, most people wouldn't bother but I want to do something a bit different. It is near christmas so I could do a christmas theme. I don't know whether to bother or not.
I'll shut up now,
Kate.

Okay - my turn to talk about my school.
I went through the Island school system of Primary School, Middle School, High School, and all the sixth forms are attached to High Schools - there is one college - The Isle of Wight Technical College - but I attended Sandown High's sixth form, doing English, History and Sociology.
As for uni - I had about 10 lectures a week, but there was a lot more reading. Okay, I didn't do any, but that explains why I dropped out of law and transferred to history
I had a look around Portsmouth Uni - there are quite a few H2G2ing researchers in that area, so if you ever feel brave enough to meet any of us in real life - including me who isn't far away in Southampton - you can. Hmm... that's a scary thought At least you've plenty of time to think about the idea.
I must confess something - I've never, ever, been drunk.
What do you think you'll have your name as?
Have I seen any good films lately? Well, last film I saw was "Stuart Little" which I took my 9 year old sister Rhiannon to see as a treat - but "Chicken Run" was better! Apart from that I've not seen much - "X-Men" was fun, I've not really seen anything for a while. Tomorrow I'm off to London for the weekend, where I'll see "Scary Movie", a performance by The Reduced Shakespeare Company, and attend the last night of the Proms flags waving! It'll be fun!
As for birthdays - firstly, when is yours?
I've never had a fancy dress birthday party. But then, last birthday everyone forgot. So I can't really say - actually having people remember will be a pleasant change for me, so really I'm the last one to ask about what to do!
See ya!

Sounds like you had a pretty standard school life. I went to nursery, infant school, then we moved to Canada so I went to elementary school for a year, then we came back to england so I went to primary school, then secondary school and then sixthform. God, it seems like I have been in one school or another forever!
Have a great time in London, I have heard how good the Reduced Shakespear Company are and I have always wanted to see them, you are so lucky! I've never been to the Proms either, I hope you have been practising your flag-flying!!
I had never been drunk until I was on holiday a few weeks ago. I probubly shouldn't have bothered because all that happened as I felt really dizzy for a while. Your not missing much! Although last time at that party I managed to give myself memory gaps. That probubly wasn't a good idea!
I will probubly have a fancy dress party, I have never been to one either and it would hopefully put it up on the legendary party list with Jen's in January. My birthday is in December (the first), when is yours?
I saw Chicken Run too and I laughed my arse off! I must ahve looked a fool because the rest of the cinema was full of unimpressed adults so I was the only one laughing! My friends thought it was rubbish but I thought it was great. My friends have seen Stuart Little and they thought it was brilliant. That was the first time I had been to the cinema since Scream 3 and I haven't been since either. The cinema in Newbury closed down last year so we don't get to go that often. We have to go all the way to Reading.
So you don't get that much time off at university then? Sounds like we get more ps than you lot! Portsmouth is a great city, I have family connections there. It would be wierd to meet other h2g2ers. There should be some kind of gathering for all of the people in the area, that would be quite funny!
I have the rest of the dya off now but I can't decide whether to go home, do work or mess about on the computers. I should go home for some food, I forgot my lunch today and I'm starving! I could always come back later couldn't I? Although I also have two essays to write and a physics test to revise for.
Desisions, desisions! I'll go home and write essays I think, then I can eat too and kill two birds with one stone.
I don't even know what I am on about anymore so I'll go. Bye!!
love Kate

Just a short message as I've got to run off soon!
I'll tell you all about my time in London, and how much I enjoyed or not everything. And yes, I'll be flag waving! Got to get into the spirit of things. If you watch it on TV, I'll be the one in Hyde Park with a flag - so look out for me
How could anyone possibly NOT laugh in "Chicken Run"??? Not laughing in "Chicken Run" should be a crime punishable by death... okay, maybe not, but it is, well, Wrong. EVERYONE enjoyed Chicken Run that I know - I thought it was brilliant. Oh well, I guess they're the ones who lose out in the end... Laugh away! Nothing wrong with having a good time. I haven't seen "Scream 3", though.
As for meeting people from h2g2, it's quite fun. There are a couple of Official h2g2 meetings a year in London, and I've been to 2 so far. They're great fun, the next will probably be around December somewhen - if you want to go, tag along. They're lots of fun!
And there was talk of a possible meeting of Portsmouth researchers - it was discussed here:
http://www.h2g2.com/F36638&thread=49586
but nothing ever came of it.
Well, talk to you when you return!
Matt

Your right, don't hold back, punish them by death! I would look out for you in Hyde Park but I have no idea what you look like. Kind of an important part of being able to spot people...!
I would love to go to a h2g2 meeting, I think they sound good. I will keep my eyes and ears open for the next one.
Scream 3 was crap by the way, don't bother to see it! I had to sit through it twice with different people each time and I was REALLY bored!
Speak to you when you get back, have fun!!!
love Kate
