Hiya - sorry about the delay in replying, I've just had Sarah visiting this weekend, so I haven't e-mailed, h2g2ed or gone anywhere near a computer since then.
So, how was your essay, and do you like Chicken Burgers again? I must admit that now I prefer quarter pounders, when before I was a Big Mac person... I wonder what else'll happen.
Talk to you later,
Matt

Hi,
Don't worry about not reaplying, it was only a day!!! I hope you had a good weekend.
I still can't stand chicken burgers!! I used to be a quarter pounder person but I have just discovered the greatness of big macs.
The essay was quite easy in that I knew what I wanted to say, but it took absolutly AGES (about 5 hours) to write it all down. I was really bored by the time I finished it!
I have to go and do some work on my ucas form now, it is due in on Friday and I haven't chosen where to apply yet!!

Yep, I had a great weekend, thanks. I even went to the cinema and saw the latest H.G. Wells re-make - "Hollow Man". It wasn't bad - not as gory as I thought it would be, but fun. Not at all serious, though. At the moment I'm going off many action films as nothing seems to happen in them, I prefer more serious films, but this one wasn't bad.
I generally prefer the Quarterpounders now as the meat is juicier, and you actually get ketchup and not the very unusual Mac sauce... I've no idea what Mac sauce actually is - but alas I know too well what it smells like
I hope you get your UCAS form sorted out - don't worry about it too much, it's not worth panicking about, just get the thing done.
Catch you later
Matt

I heard Hollow Man was a poor remake of the old movie and it wasn't as good. But reviewers are often wrong. I saw Erin Brocovich on Saturday, it isn't bad but it is totaly unrealistic. That is surprising because it is a true story, but it is highly unlikely that could happen in real life. Have you seen it? If someone stood in an office and started screaming like she did they would either laugh or call the police. Or both. Not give her a job!!!

I don't know if it is a remake - I didn't think there was a film called "Hollow Man", and I expect all Invisbible Man films are more based on H.G. Well's classic book, which I've read.
As for Erin Brockovich, I didn't particularly want to see it when it was released as it stars Julia Roberts - someone who cannot act, and just smiles a lot. And the trailer portrayed it as being a very bad film, with lines such as "they're called boobs" being said to help sell the film. I don't know - I guess perhaps I'm getting a little picky, but that kinda film doesn't appeal to me. Even if the real Erin Brokovich is in it, playing a waitress who Julia Roberts addresses as "Julia"...
I hope I don't seem snobby or stuck-up - please tell me if I do!

Of course you don't!! It was a really bad film, she just stood around and screamed a lot and every second word was either f**k or bulls**t.
The origional 'Hollow Man' film didn't have that title. It was made in the sixties and was called "The Invisable Man" and was clearly in turn based on the HG Wells book. The film was quite good as I remember.
Today was really pointless, I turned up to find my lesson cancelled and also heard this afternoons lesson was cancelled too so I had come in for nothing, I have done nothing all day and it has all been wasted. It is surprising how tireing doing bugger all is!!
I'm going to have to go home in a minute, they are about to close the computer room so I will speak to you tomorrow,
Kate.

At the moment I'm kinda semi-panicking as I've been given two 2,000 word essays to write before the end of October, and I know nothing about the subjects they're on! Help!
So, if I'm not on much until November, you know why - and if I am on a lot, could you remind me that I really should be writing about the French Religious Wars and why Ethelred's kingdom was conquered by the Vikings? Thanks.

Looks like the course is based on the fact that, from 30th October, I've got an essay to do each week for the next 8 weeks! No relaxing ahead.
But I'll sneak a chat now and then. This week I must find out why AEthelred's Kingdom was so easily conquered.

Sorry, can't help you there! History raelly isn't my thing, I haven't done any since year 9 and I don't intend to. Quite frankly a lot of it bores me! The history of science and astronomy and that sort of thing is interessting, and a lot of the stuff from this century is too. I don't know anything about Ethelred. My brother loves history, he know a lot about almost any period. He'd be good at a history degree. He's only in year 11 so I doubt he knows any to the depth you have to!
I have lots of English essay to do over the next momth or so, all coursework so I won't get much rest either. No rest for the wicked I guess.

I'm afraid I find history interesting - afterall, it helps us know how we got where we are now.
And I should be fine on the essay, as long as I type Æthelred correctly. Æthelred was king of England from the 980s - 1014.
Oh well - that's the price we pay for being students - doing work.

You can type Æ by holding down ALT and typing in 0198 on the number pad, and get æ with ALT + 0230. It's not ideal, but it makes posts look a lot more interesting. I wish I had a name like Æthelred. Perhaps I should change my name to Mætthew, what do you think?
And I sure hope work doesn't catch on - otherwise my time at McDonalds could become a nightmare!

Okay, I know what it's like to be nagged by family members - and also what it's like to be ignored completely by elder sisters who won't pay me any attention unless I *DO* nag for half an hour non-stop.

I'm back now so I can reply to you more! How are your essays going?
I'm the oldest in my family so I don't know what it is like to have older siblings. I've always been glad I don't, I think I would hate to have older, wiser (Ha ha) and MUCH bossier brothers/sisters. It is also anoying being the oldest because I am setting the standards for the younger ones. I am the first person in my family to ever go to university. Ever. On both sides. And it is always me that babysits and has responsibility etc. I am the oldest of my cousins too, they are all between 2 and 10 years old (and there is 7 of them!)so I am always being held up as an example to them too. God knows why. I worry about their future if they end up like me!!

Hiya - I missed you over the last few days.
Having an older sister can be fun sometimes, but in many ways we're complete opposites. She's always been very loud and noisy, while I'm extremely quiet. I never really got a chance to say anything when I was growing up as my sister got jealous whenever she wasn't the centre of attention, and as a result at home I often lived in my sister's shadow to a large extent.
I may be the youngest in my family (not including my half-sister), but I too am the first to go to Uni in my family too.
But as you're the oldest, does that mean you have to be the most responsible at all times? Or are you allowed to get away with being child-like at times?
Well, gotta go,
Matt

I am supposed to be responsible and baysit loads etc. (I have to take my brother trick or treating tonight because he is too young to go on his own). It gets annoying because I never seem to unwind, when I went on holiday with my friends I was always keeping an eye on them and being the 'sencible one' because that is all I ever have to do. It is a pain! I can't get away with acting like a little kid a lot of the time, but I just act like a big kid instead!!

Ah - I hate it when you have to act responsibly - for some reason parents are obsessed with that, although luckily my Dad's got a good sense of humour. But when you're a student, you can act as childish as you want to - as long as you do your work

I am looking forward to being completely irrisponsible in university, although I will do my work of course. And I will be responsible enough to survive!! Ok, maybe I won't be able to be totoly irrisponsible, but I can have a damn good laugh!!
