Welcome to H2G2 you little creeper - only kidding! So, hello, glad to know you're such a fan, you'll be sure to fit in here perfect! It's a great place to hang out and meet new people - so feel free to look around, meet new folks, and never worry about going anywhere or saying anything in the wrong place - we're all talkative and love new people to talk to!

EARTHDWELLER Posted Nov 10, 1999
Well hello Bluebottle and thankyou. I suddenly realise that I may have let myself in for something deeply phone-bill consuming, having cut back my Usenet activity recently...
I put something basic up on my h2g2 home page for the time being and will read up on GuideML before doing something more elaborate.
I was surprised to find that I was the first EARTHDWELLER in the Guide - there seem to be quite a few floating around Usenet. I am the only known upper case EARTHDWELLER and I am neither hyphonated or spaced out, unlike the others on Usenet. Allegedly.
My biggest claim to fame is that I am the only known person that has worked in the IT industry who has never read the Lord of the Rings, and therefore I always struggle to make up passwords which other people can remember.
Anyway greetings to yourself and all who stumble across this pile of random letters and believe it to be the work of any creature other than the monkey that wrote it. I'm off to get a new ribbon for my typewriter. Why am I in a room with thousands of other monkeys? Why are they writing better messages than me? Will I be replaced? They wont be able to type if I nick their ribbons...

PS. The other monkeys have gone on strike due to the lack of ribbons. They keep saying something about creative genius and losing the plot... I don't understand this creative genius thing - I have always been able to write coherantlyaaagaefohfda-srm230fj\gfh[afapfj[egtjwe0gjjmlv;ssggwe-tiw]gkwkgw]tkg FISH FISH FISH ajfwq -qwtg jq-t q-jtqwpegpq]ewgtk ][qekgqe]gke]gk ek ] ][qe[ [[] q-i-qwgfj{QWT_+I +R _W

Well, don't worry my friend - no matter your problem, someone here will always be able to help - but if it's guideML you want help with, I'm afraid my knowledge is very limited
As for me, I haven't read The Lord Of The Rings yet either, but I intend to whenever I have a spare moment - or considering the length - a spare lifetime

Hello Earthdweller!
GuideML BlueBottle says... For that you should certainly see Bruce in the GuidML Clinic at http://www.h2g2.com/A187229 .
For any other kind of help there's always the "Don't Panic" option, or the links at the bottom on the H2G2 homepage. And if you're really desperate, you're always welcome to ask your questions in "Ask H2G2" at http://www.h2g2.com/A148907 .
Anyway, above all, you're welcome to have fun and chat with the lot of us. If you need a towel, come and borrow mine for a while
Greets,

Kia Ora, EARTHDWELLER !
And no that is not a concealed bottle of softdrink I just greeted you with ! It is one in the language of Maori, the indigenous people of Aotearoa (New Zealand). It means hello!; thanks!; May you have health!
The only possible connection I can see to the softdrink, is perhaps that an entrepreneurial Kiwi serviceman, remaining in Old Blighty after WW2, may have had a hand in setting the company up.
The Lord of The Rings is quite a read. I am a fan of that work and hope you find the time to do so. It was the last bedtime storybook(!) -all three volumes- read to my sister and I, by our father. I have read it five times myself since. Here in New Zealand LoTR is being filmed as a three part series by producer and director Peter Jackson with work on the first movie currently underway.
An impressive h2g2 page you have here btw.
