Gnomon's Space
Sail forth — steer for the deep waters only,
For we are bound where mariner has not yet dared to go
I first discovered h2g2 on 1 September 2000. I spent 16 years writing informative and sometimes amusing entries for this website. Unfortunately, the site lost its following due to excessively harsh moderation scaring away well-meaning regulars, and bugs in the software scaring away new writers.
The level of technical support provided is now almost zero. For example, when I worked out how to fix three of the minor bugs in the system, it took more than three years before I could persuade anyone to undertake the 5 minutes' work to implement the changes. That's been done now and those bugs are fixed, but the waiting has sapped my enthusiasm for the site and I'm not sure whether I'll ever get back to wanting to contribute again.
So I probably won't be writing any more articles here for the world to look at. You'll still see me around, as I use this site as a handy place to store stuff I'm thinking about.
In my years here, I met a lot of good, friendly people. Thanks to Douglas Adams for setting the site up and providing a vehicle for us all to get together.

I worked on Gnomon's Guide for a few years. This is where I kept my entries once they were finished:

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
